R.I.P., Rick Grimes?
Andrew Lincoln is set to exit the AMC hit drama The Walking Dead during the upcoming Season 9, according to a report from Collider. Lincoln, who stars as Rick on the hit zombie thriller, will reportedly only appear in a half-dozen episodes in Season 9 before leaving the show for good. To compensate for the loss of its primary star, AMC is reportedly preparing to offer Lincolns co-star Norman Reedus (Daryl) substantial compensation to stay with the show and assume the lead role. (AMC declined to comment when TVLine reached out for confirmation.)
The Walking Dead is a show built for cast turnover, with characters often dying in shocking fashion, but the loss of Lincoln the face of the series for eight seasons now would be especially tough to overcome. Just last season, many fans protested when Ricks son Carl, played by Chandler Riggs, was killed off. Plus, Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, will be starring in the new ABC drama Whiskey Cavalier, and will only return to TWD next season on a part-time basis.
Maybe if the writers found something interesting for his character to do, it might be worth watching.
Negan is still alive in the comics (I think.).
You are aware that is exactly what What Fear the walking dead did.
Andrew probably wants more money, in any case I still enjoy the show. Hope it continues many story lines can be created.
love the walking dead but I personally feel that the longest a show should go on is about seven years....my reason is that the show grows stale and mean time you have some great actor and creative staff tied up to a show that has basically ran out of steam. I look forward to his next project because he is a great actor who I would love to see in other roles.
Wouldn’t most of the zombies be piles of goo, eaten by vermin, or turned to zomcicles in the wintertime by season 9? You wouldn’t have new zombies.
FWIW, his father-in-law is Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.
I hate spoilers!
Rick’s boring character is the reason I quit watching after season 4. If they had killed him then, I might have kept watching.
You're right.
I think we are supposed to assume that the zombies want to eat people, but don't have to eat anything to live because they are dead.
If they are locked up in a barn for years, they'll be there when you come back for them.
It doesn't jibe with the known laws of science (but then the whole "dead but undead" idea is problematic and is hard to reconcile with current scientific thinking).
People also probably wouldn't be driving around in cars years afterwards, because eventually the gasoline would go bad.
Rich Grimes will be missed. Carl is missed.
I loved Abrahams character.
Maggie will probably go next season too.

I think that’s part of the problem. They keep killing off the cast of characters the audience grows to know and love. I know they did this to keep the show “edgy” and more “realistic”, but the audience invests in characters. If they keep knocking them off, it cuts the bond with the audience and eventually the audience gives up.
Stayed with it until Lucille and Glen. Then it went too much to the dark side. Sometimes I see it, sometimes I don’t.
I’m leaving if Daryl, Carol, or Michonne is offed.
But your right, starting 6, it changed.
I think they should trek North. Zombies freeze up there according to Max Brooks the author of “World War Z”. (His book “The Zombie Survival Guide” is a hoot.)
Yep.
LOL ! Z Nation !
I did not know that .
Do you know how Morgan ended up on the other side of the continent? Via the Garbage Pail Kid’s helicopter???
And before she blew up, Kirstie was a lot hotter.
The guy needs to die in as horrible a manner as possible. Yet, in the interest of PC, Rick's going to make nice.
[spit]
The show jumped shark seasons ago. I felt like I was there with the survivors in early seasons and now look at them as a bunch of clowns. They killed off good characters/added to much PC replacements, plots/subplots are not very creative and now the show just has to die. There is now no good way to complete the show’s run without being completely stupid.
