R.I.P., Rick Grimes?
Andrew Lincoln is set to exit the AMC hit drama The Walking Dead during the upcoming Season 9, according to a report from Collider. Lincoln, who stars as Rick on the hit zombie thriller, will reportedly only appear in a half-dozen episodes in Season 9 before leaving the show for good. To compensate for the loss of its primary star, AMC is reportedly preparing to offer Lincolns co-star Norman Reedus (Daryl) substantial compensation to stay with the show and assume the lead role. (AMC declined to comment when TVLine reached out for confirmation.)
The Walking Dead is a show built for cast turnover, with characters often dying in shocking fashion, but the loss of Lincoln the face of the series for eight seasons now would be especially tough to overcome. Just last season, many fans protested when Ricks son Carl, played by Chandler Riggs, was killed off. Plus, Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, will be starring in the new ABC drama Whiskey Cavalier, and will only return to TWD next season on a part-time basis.
“People also probably wouldn’t be driving around in cars years afterwards, because eventually the gasoline would go bad.”
not to mention that batteries go permanently dead WAY before the gasoline goes bad, and yet they keep starting up dead cars nine years after the apocalypse ... roads are still perfect except for a few leaves strewn about by the stage hands (plus the roadsides are always freshly mown instead of being grown up with several feet of grass and scrub).
way too much psuedo-profound angsty whining dialog last year ... i kept fast forwarding over that as well as all of the interminable full-auto battles ... and pretty soon i realized i was skipping almost entire episodes ...
Morgan went into a deep funk after the last firefight with Negan’s crew.
He vows that he will never kill any humans again, and he just started walking West. I think he got two long rides along the way.
Anyway, eventually he meets Madison and her kids, I think in California, but a lot of the filming is in Texas, and we see constant flash back and flash forward episodes, so I'm not completely certain how or where Morgan hooked up with Madison.
Also, there have been many hints that Madison is dead.
There are two more episodes, so we will find out soon.
WARNING! This thread contains casting news, so might be considered to contain spoilers for season 9.
I agree. Season 7, I just couldn't finish.
I don't blame Andrew for leaving. BTW, a friend of a friend met Andrew Lincoln in Atlanta. Andrew turns out to be a genuinely humble, good guy in real life.
The garbage-pail people were just stupid.
Negan was a very well executed super-villain. You could actually see his side of things from time to time.
“From what I have read they ruined this show by following the Negan narrative for far too long.”
I agree, I haven’t watched for the last season and a half. Too much Negan bumping off too many popular characters.
The garbage-pail people never made any sense to me.
It took the show from ‘far-fetched but reasonable’ to ‘OMG it’s an effing COMIC BOOK now’.
BTW, if you want EXCELLENT TV, I recommend Better Call Saul.
You could start a thread. :)
I gave up on it after just a few episodes in the first season. It got pretty boring for me and I really just like the Zombie thing anyway.
LOL! Love Better Call Saul! When does it return, September?
Ala Fear the Walking Dead? They introduced some new characters, moved to Texas from SoCal/Mexico and fast forwarded it into current time catching up with TWD which is how Morgan was able to transition into the show.
Yep. Eagerly awaiting. That is QUALITY television.
They need to make sure he lives. Carl survived getting gut shot with a deer rifle and he wasn’t half as interesting as John. Definitely need a true quickdraw artist in the Zpoc!
It’s time. Knowing he’s done will bring in viewers for one last hurrah. I give it one more season after that and then it’s gone.
Maggie and her perpetual non-showing pregnancy is getting pretty stale...
No longer watch the WD. The nonsensical, ridiculously staged “battles”, the maudlin melodramatics, the PC gay, muslim, etc story lines thrown in our face - all wore out what began as a fun and innovative series.
I did, however, enjoy the death of Carl. An annoying character played by a terrible actor. Unfortunately his welcome departure was dragged out over 40 plus minutes.
The last episode I saw was a few months ago - Basically another round of implausible battles in which third-level characters no one cares about get killed - and then ending with Maggie solemnly lamenting “the cost” of it all. ZZZZZ
Looks like they’re pulling the plug on the whole thing after season 9. Which is fine.
They should have taken a lesson from Breaking Bad. Write five tight seasons. Then end it strong.
I’ve been waiting for Rick to wake up in the hospital from a long coma and find out that Shane has been diddling his wife the whole time. The governor was actually the governor on tv in his room and Glenn was the pizza delivery guy that brought pizzas to Carl when he visited. Daryl is in the bed next to him in a coma from a motorcycle accident, Merl keeps coming by to steal his drugs. Michonne is a nurse who keeps having to stab him with a new iv needle and so on.
