Pregnant woman and service dog punched in airplane scuffle in Orlando

59-year-old man punched a deaf pregnant woman and her service dog inside a Frontier jet upon landing in Orlando on Friday, Orlando Police said.

According to a police report, Timothy Manley was travelling from Colorado Springs, Colo., along with his wife Petrini Manley, 56, and Joshua Manley, 27, all from Gainesville.

Petrini Manley complained of being allergic to dogs as the plane descended and was being taxied to the gate at the Orlando International Airport. The service animal, a Great Dane, woke up and Timothy Manley told police the dog “took up more space than [he] felt it deserved.”

Timothy Manley then punched the service dog, Zariel, causing it to yelp. The dog shook its head and hid under a seat, according to the police report.

The 21-year-old woman and her 30-year-old partner, who is also deaf, tried to yell at Timothy Manley as best as they could, the report indicates.

Police said Timothy Manley then got into the man’s face and punched the woman, who is about 20 weeks pregnant.

Two officers arrived at the scene of the scuffle as Timothy Manley passed by them, saying “It took you all long enough to get here,” according to the report.

Don’t bother arguing with the whole Marmaduke and Astro generation who attach human characteristics to furry critters. Anthropomorphism. They’ve flooded FR of late.

Maybe there should be a limit on size of dog allowed for service.

That stated, this woman is deaf, her dog probably actually does perform some service.

And why complain about allergies and size at the END of the trip? Wouldn’t that come up early?

The service animal is supposed to do things like prevent the master from crossing a street when traffic is coming. A chihuahua can't physically exert enough force to stop a large adult from going into harm's way. I have a cousin who trains service animals for veterans but is also blind and trains her own seeing eye dogs. She's about 5'10" and prefers to have large German Sheppards as her seeing eye dogs.

I wasn’t saying to use lap dogs, just limit the size.

German ShepHERDs (sorry, the spelling drives me nuts...it’s a sheep-HERDing dog) are ideal, of course. (Highly biased here, but with good reason.)

Does her being deaf in public offend you?

No but being stupid in public does. What can a one-hundred plus pound dog do to help a deaf person that a fifty pound dog can't? That's not a service animal. That's a pet and the person that owns it is abusing the system at everyone elses expense. Look for an end to so called service animal exemptions for all handicapped because of stupid snowflakes abuse. The dog's owner wants attention and she is getting it. I love dogs but I also love sanity. Taking Great Danes and peacocks on planes is not sane.

How does a Great Dane get “under” the seat?

The dog is a service animal trained to help a person who is deaf. Not a "support" ferret.

A 200 lb. great dane is not a service dog, it's a method of transportation.

Get a damn support ferret a nobody will be pissed off.........How simple is that?

My choice for a “Service Animal” would be an Octopus!
Very intelligent, able to solve problems and is not a noise problem.
Also able to take up less room, compacting his body, no bones.

“...Michelle Guido, Orlando Police Department spokeswoman, said the incident report has been handed over to the FBI, which is handling the investigation since the altercation happened on the plane.”

I was amused to note that the PoliceWOMAN was a Guido. FReepers from the Northeast will likely know why I think it’s funny.

ps:
we agree about the alleged criminal.

what i don’t understand is why anybody would DARE punch out a woman and/or her Woof... when her Woof is a Great Dane especially! I mean, GD’s do usually come equipped with some giant TEETH!

I rarely have problems with the animals themselves. Its the owners that usually need dealing with.

That said unless the animals is a near to immediate threat, you don’t just trivially punch other folks animals.

‘It’s religious faith in a God of love and justice that creates a respect for fellow humans.’

no, not really...any number of freethinkers are perfectly capable of respecting their fellow humans; conversely, any number of believers are absolute churls to other people...

‘Are you seriously suggesting that wedging a 200# dog in the seat beside you is acceptable on an airplane!?’

no of course not...I would find it far more acceptable to wedge a morbidly obese human who smells and snorts while eating in the seat next to me...

It is illegal to ask this about a Service Dog. You may ask if the animal is used for a disability and what tasks is it trained for. Nothing else per the ADA can be asked. An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) you can ask for the doctor’s order and not allow if they can not prove it or just refuse to allow them unless it’s HUD/FHA housing, but proof is required for ESA’s to owners of rental per HUD/FHA.

Several airlines, I know Alaskian Airlines is one of them, as of this month are requiring proof that ESA’s are really ESA’s and 21 States will fine people who misrepresent a Service Animal or ESA now. These fake animals are actually hurting those with a real one, they want them stopped too. The vaction rentals on AirBnB are telling no pet allowed properties, they must accept them all Service Animals and ESA’s with no proof on ESA’s and it’s being abused for people to bring unrulely pets that damage the property and you can not charge a pet fee for them. Thus impacting those that really need them. No one wants them on planes, vacational rentals, and many other places because of the abuse of fake animals.
