Theres a new debate storming the internet thats reminiscent of the furor over that white and gold dress back in 2015 (or was it blue and back?) People are torn over an audio clip of a computer-generated voice, with some listeners saying they hear the word Laurel in a deep male voice, and others saying they hear Yanny in a higher-pitch. The recording went viral after it first surfaced on Reddit earlier this week. It was later posted on Twitter, where it has been liked more than 50,000 times and stoked a fierce debate.....

Actually I heard nothing but Yanny the first few times I heard it. No possibility of Laurel. Then I heard it on a different device and it clearly said Laurel. I was amazed. So my conclusion is that it depends on the device you hear it on what you actually hear.

That is like mine. I heard Yanny on the phone speaker and Laurel on some decent headphones. I figured the perception was frequency spectrum related.

They showed this on the local TV news last night.
At first I had no idea what they were talking about. When I finally understood, it seemed impossible to me that anyone heard anything other than Laurel.
All of the ones on TV also heard Laurel. Apparently a significant number do hear Yanny tho.

I hear YAMMY Yammy? Sure it wasn't "Gammy"?
To: Jane Long
I hear “Laurel”.
Obviously their must be a difference in reception between L and Y listeners. Brain waves?
To: Squeako
I had suspected some type of compression differential between a cable stream and satellite transmission. But whatever the explanation, It is noticeably different.

I listened to it and heard “Laurel” with a deep voice...
An hour later, I listened again and heard “Yanny” with the higher pitch...
Twice since then, all I’ve heard is “Yanny”...

I’m starting to think it’s a hoax. I played it on this same computer yesterday and it was a hi-pitched voice saying “yanny”. Today it’s a low-pitched voice saying “laurel”.

I heard both. Couldn’t hear Laurel at all for a bit, then it sort of melted into Laurel instead of Yanny.
To: Jane Long
The first time I listened I heard Yanny.
I listened a second time to see if I could possibly hear Laurel.
I clearly heard Laurel in a deeper voice than the first listen. To my ear, I cannot head Yanny no matter how I might try.
