I built a lot of model kits of cars, planes and spaceships in the 60’s. Also magazines like CarToons and Surftoons with rat fink and wonder wart hog had lots of crazy car designs. Great times, and great cars.
I also built many of those cars as models. I’ll bet that two-piece Raider Coach was a bitch to drive.
Does it fly?
We are all still waiting...
That sure looks like a full scale build from an entry in the Fisher Body Guild Model Competition of the early 60’s.
Some amazing designs came from those contests. I learned a lot about the auto design process while making my entry, which sadly I didn’t finish in time because I was still learning the advanced woodworking skills required.

The Red Baron model kit was released in January 1968, eventually selling more than two million units.

I did not like the Rat Fink character and was even repelled by it (although the cars were alright) and feel this presupposed my future as a social conservative/trad. No kidding, early preferences predict a lot.
On a parallel note, model building and painting models is where I acquired early facility with skills that formed the basis for hobby activities until this very day (will be working on a Buell custom motorcycle later today). I was a perfectionist and I can’t tell you how many times I dunked the whole plastic body in thinner to remove the enamel and start once again. Kids now are missing this stage.
Ah, the memories. Between 1963 and 1965, I probably built every model Revel produced.
I was really surprised to learn a few years ago where the hobby of model car building stands today.
