I think being a material accomplice in the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Syrian Christians may matter just a tetch more in the damnation of Ace McCain.
I believe he is being vindictive, but his choice not to have a political rival not attend his funeral doesn’t seem of itself to warrant eternal judgment to hell.
Hebrews 9:27 New International Version (NIV)
Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment
I would have to say, of course not.
John McCain, like anyone else, has a right to request that certain people do not attend. It’s not such a terrible thing.
In fact it’s an expression of honesty. It’s his own funeral, McCain is entitled to drop the pretense of diplomacy.
Anyone who has been paying attention knows how McCain feels about President Trump. So anyone acting as though they are ‘shocked!’ is simply acting. Why pretend? There is nothing to be gained in this instance. You be you, Mr. McCain. Let the venom flow out to it’s very last drop. Mr. Trump can take it, as can we.
What was with the Patton and Smith thing?
This thread should be pulled for it’s shear stupidness.
McCain salvation has zero to do with who he invites to his funeral...
He is either saved or not....
Who the hell cares.
I don’t know what the reason for Patton hating Smith.
I have read that Smith was considered to be Eisenhower’s hatchet man.
That would never, ever happen unless the priest in question was a faithless shepherd. In cases of danger of death, the priest is authorized to give General Absolution to all present. No confession is necessary. Of course, once the danger of death is past, if you survive you're expected to make an auricular confession at the first opportunity.
One of the most powerful portrayals of General Absolution is in the splendid book by Giovanni Guareschi, "Comrade Don Camillo", in which a priest goes incognito to the Soviet Union. There is a terrible storm, and all on a ship are in danger of death, and Don Camillo breaks character to give General Absolution to all. Nobody says a word afterwards except the political officer . . . who like the political officer in "Das Boot" is shut up by the rest . . .
It was made into a movie starring the French actor Fernandel.
You can forgive somebody and not want them at your funeral. And I’m not sure he’s really preventing Trump from attending, once you’re dead you can’t really do anything.
McCain is a lousy politician, but he wasn’t a coward or a traitor while a POW. He ejected from his crippled A-4 and sustained multiple and severe injuries to his body that were not properly treated by the North Vietnamese. I am a former Navy fighter pilot, and I have a good bit more insight into McCain’s military service than most on this forum. The inhumane treatment and torture of the POWs caused almost all of them to break. The Code of Conduct no longer requires you give only name, rank, service, and social security number. You resist as long as possible, and then give as little as possible, hopefully misleading or worthless information. You then tell your POW chain of command what occurred, if able. Probably not going to convince you, but my own training made me realize the limits of human endurance, even under controlled conditions. Please stop with these misrepresentations.
John McCain could very well be out of his mind...still.
Kind of a silly question to ask about a guy whose funeral should be held in a mosque.
I barely know of Bedell Smith.
Guess I’ll read up on him sometime.
I was never a big fan of Ike either. Nothing against the guy though.
An academic discussion.
But he IS proving he is the a$$hole we all thought he was.
If McCain has a soul, it’s already been lost. If he hasn’t repented, which by his continued bitterness and animosity to others tells me he hasn’t, his soul is lost, and has been lost for a very long time. His selfishness didn’t just start. It’s been there his whole life.
Answering the original post ... No. No explanation given or offered.
Not many Americans care one hoot about hateful, envious, jealous, Senator, John McCain and, or his oncoming passing. You can bet your bottom dollar that will be very little, if any, mournful regret in the McCain passing. No crowds lining the streets, highways, roadways of the USA crying over the loss of Senator McCain. A man or woman reaps what they sow.
And, McCain will reap the wrath of “Satan”, the Devil, when he leaves this world. Oh...yes, GW Bush BH Obama will speak well of Senator McCain in their eulogies, but they will also follow in the footsteps of the badly flawed, John McCain.
I beg that God, Almighty forgives John McCain, but, I cannot...”Eternity spent in Hell stands ready to welcome him”!!!
