Huge icebergs could be towed from Antarctica to Cape Town in a bid to solve South Africa's worst drought in a century.
Marine salvage experts are floating the plan to tug the icebergs to the region after its seen the worst water shortage in decades.
Salvage master Nick Sloane told Reuters news agency he was looking for government and private investors for a scheme to guide huge chunks of ice across the ocean, chop them into a slurry and melt them down into millions of litres of drinking water.
"We want to show that if there is no other source to solve the water crisis, we have another idea no one else has thought of yet," said Sloane, who led the refloating of the capsized Italian passenger liner Costa Concordia in 2014.

Superman did this too.
But why would you tow it anywhere?
Just chop it up, load it on a barge, and deliver it to your destination.
That has to be a whole lot easier than trying to guide a massive berg !
But...Apartheid died nearly 30 years ago in South Africa - The current government - put in place by Nelson Mandela OWNS their current problems.
In this current climate, one has to choose words VERY carefully. You only have to look at Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Malawi, Tanzania, to see the success of post-colonialism in Africa. I’m confident that South Africa will change it’s name and have equal success.
Which side even talks of reducing federal control?
Two and a half centuries ago a German “ironmaster” dammed streams and swamps along the NY/NJ border so his forges would have water power to operate the hammers even in times of drought; Greenwood Lake is one of the results. THIS WAS BEFORE OUR INDEPENDENCE FROM ENGLAND.
Wilbur Smith would be amused. Hungry As The Sea
I was wondering if anyone else remembered that show!
Not a good reason, but you know the reason is that they don’t want to get (or pay for) technology from Israel.
What’s old is new again.
This idea was discussed about 1978 or so.

They can tow them using Flying Cars and Winged Unicorns.
Hey...I was just thinking about SA's crazy idea about towing a gigantic iceberg from Antarctica. Wouldn't the next thing be the environmentalists having a screaming hissy fit that they would be stealing the penguins' homes???
LOL!
And how much carbon-based fuel (diesel, probably) would they have to use in order to push / pull the icebergs to SA? Carbon is eeeevil, don’t cha know!
Who was Frederic Tudor? His name comes to mind.=
Loved Salvage 1! It was the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the thread title.
