About a year ago, I saw a PINTO in a grocery store parking lot in NH.

We could not believe that there was one of those things still running.

Or that someone would want o even own one.

Had a neighbor with a Gremlin back when, and later on another had an Aztek.

The rumor:
Aztek had two design teams, one for the front, one for the back.
Neither spoke to the other.
And nobody was actually designing an SUV, they were designing a compact sedan.
So, they inflated the proportions.
The result was a vehicle that had tiny wheels holding up what resembled a rolling fart.

AMC Gremlin.

What were they thinking?! Naming a car the “Gremlin” is like naming it the “Malfunction” or “Fail”.

Proud former owner of a mint green AMC Gremlin. Best car ever. Cold air. Rubber floor mats let you just sweep out the dirt. Posi rear traction great in snow. Well balanced. Could haul tons of stuff. Lived to over 325,000 miles.

I would kill for a VW Thing.

It’s just an old German WWII staff car with a paint job. Forgot who made the original design. Possibly Mercedes.

I’m learning those lists are pretty useless and subjective. The pinto was not an ugly car and still isn’t. The Pacer was seen as downright futuristic, and was only held back by not getting the rotary engine.

The matador, yeah. :)

AMC had three cars make this list: The Gremlin, the Matador, and the Pacer. They should have been named the UMC (Ugly Motor Company).
