Did you own any of these?
I did.......................
The Gremlin with a 304 v-8 and a standard tranny was a very quick car.
I agree on the Aztec and Matador. The Matador they have pictured I have always thought was one of the worst looking cars ever. And I remember most of them the trim started falling off about 10,000 mi
The Pinto was not that bad looking. Just a shrunk Maverick which was a shrunk Mustang. I had a 79 Station Wagon. Blue with wire wheel covers and it was a nice car for it’s cost and era. Slept in the back many times on road trips. But then I have a soft spot for 2 door station wagons.
I am actually looking at a Ford Flex for my next vehicle I like the looks of them. Now that nobody likes Station wagons anymore I kind of want one. Bad fuel economy though.
And the Thing was a 70’s VW product, not 60’s The article say’s 60’s, unless it was available in Germany earlier. IN the US it was definitely 70’s
And lastly, I agree on the ugliness of the newer Lexus’s. Would never own or want one. Ewww..
I didn't have a Bond Bug, but I did have a Bond Equipe:
Renault Alliance. Motor Trend car of the Year in like the mid 80’s. So much for motor trend.
The Gremlin X, as it was badged.
My first car was a red Pacer and my current car is a gunmetal Juke with a spoiler.
Ugliest car I ever owned was a ‘72 Dodge Dart. But the blamed thing ran and ran and ran some more.
Pintos had good lines, especially the early ones with the thin bumpers.
Ditch the rear fender skirts, and you might have a point!
The current Toy-auto and Lax-us offerings appear to have been designed by out-of-work manga artists.
I happen to think the Cube is kinda cute! And great to haul stuff to the beach. But they clearly forgot to add the Yugo to their list.
The Element is a nice car. My husband’s cousin owns one and it was a fun ride!
Also, we regretted trading in our Kia Soul, which was cute, comfortable and roomy. My Versa Note is great to drive, but not as roomy.
I agree. The first version of both the pinto and the Vega were actually very attractive cars.
In a contest of ugliest, everybody loses, and particularly hard on the eyes.
The authors of this article are confused. The AMC Matador pictured was the last generation coupe and could be a good looking car especially with the sporty “X” package. The Matador sedan with that Jimmy Durante snout, now that I would agree is ugly. The Pinto is not ugly, it only became sort of a laughingstock over the rear collision issue, which seems to have been somewhat exaggerated. They were solid, fun, cheap little cars, far better than a Vega. Nothing wrong with the looks of a Vega, either, really well styled, nice proportions. Horrible build quality, you could practically watch them rust, terrible engine. They were the diametric opposite of the Pinto. Reliable Pinto, a little basic, maybe a little dull but still fun, versus the comparatively sleek and sporty Vega that was generally just a piece of crap. Citroens are idiosyncratic, I happen to love the DS and the SM Maserati, think they’re beautiful. The 2CV “Deux Chevaux” or “Duck” is ugly but beloved and a very versatile, reliable vehicle. The VW thing is awesome, just rust-prone. If you can find a dry climate one, lift the suspension, put Centerlines and a roll cage on it for a sort of Pre-Runner, then they really look good.
It took me years to warm up to the Honda Element, can’t say they’re pretty but they’re very utilitarian and there’s a certain beauty in that. I like them now, sort of the Swiss Army Knife of small car-based SUV’s, that interior can be configured in so many ways. There’s even a pop top camper roof that can be put on them.
The styling of the original Vega was probably done by the same people who did the 2nd generation Camaro. And that’s not a bad connection at all.
Nissan Juke - looks like a dog squatting to ... you know.
Ugliest car....cardboard doors!!!
