Schools are removing analogue clocks from examination halls because teenagers are unable to tell the time, a head teachers union has said.
Teachers are now installing digital devices after pupils sitting their GCSE and A-level exams complained that they were struggling to read the correct time on an analogue clock.
Malcolm Trobe, deputy general secretary at the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), said youngsters have become accustomed to using digital devices.
The current generation arent as good at reading the traditional clock face as older generations, he told The Telegraph.

Kind of like a friend of our daughter when they were in Jr. High who was going to help my daughter do the dishes after eating dinner at our house. She wanted to know what to do with the dishes my daughter put in the rinse water....We had a dishwasher that sat idle ( I didn’t like them - still don’t) but this mother wasn’t going to let a 12 year old get away with putting dishes in a dishwasher. Did it work? Nope - today she uses a dishwasher and has ever since leaving home.

The idea of learning to fly gliders really paid off for Germany's Luftwaffe pilots during and before WWII.
After WWI Germany wasn't allowed to have an air force, and the development of aircraft was severely limited.
But, being Germans, they thought well outside the box. They formed glider clubs, which most young males really loved to fly with.
One serious glider pilot was Erich Hartman who shot down over 500, (mostly Soviet) aircraft. Another was Adolph Galland who shot down somewhere near 200 allied aircraft before he was assigned to administrative duty by Hitler.
This summer I hope to do some glider riding and hopefully dual flying.
Your remarks about the value of flying gliders are very well said.

Yep, the Germans were smart. They used the development of gliders between the wars to develop laminar flow airfoils, which gave them a tremendous advantage early in WWII. By comparison, when the war began we were still training pilots in biplanes, and we didnt really catch up until the advent of the P-51. Every time we have ended a war, we have gotten complacent, which led to us being unprepared the next time a major war occurred.
Good luck with your introduction to soaring. Theres nothing else like it. I got my glider rating at 16, a few weeks before I got my drivers license. My parents had to drive me to my check ride. Ive flown the Schweizer 2-33, the 2-32, the 1-26, and the Grob G-103 Twin II. Im waaaaaaaaay older now, but I keep thinking about getting back into it, and would love to get maybe an LS-4 (though my dream glider is an ASW-27). If you want to see some exceptional, and incredibly educational soaring videos on YouTube, search for Bruno Vassel. He flies an ASW-27, and hes like a flying college professor. His videos are incredibly interesting and informative.

Given a digital clock, how do you adjust your aiming point when your spotter says, “Six ring, seven o’clock”?

“Bandits at 12 o’clock high!”
“Where’s that?”
Next, they won’t know East from West or be able to read a compass.

Six years ago a kid at my son’s college had a faceless watch. Another kid asked him how he was able to tell time.

Announcer: Someday, everyone will own a watch like this. Now, it is available only for the privileged few. The Mogasaki Corproration of Tokyo is honored to announce... Kromega III. [ lightning strikes ] A watch so complex, it takes two people to make it work. One hand wears the watch. The other hand presses the buttons that activate the 100% solid state multi-function digital quartz crystal micro-computer unit. And now, you're ready for the third hand to trigger the light-luminating dial to give you an alphanumeric readout accurate to within 9 milliseconds a year. It's that simple.
KROMEGA III. Command-crafted in impact-resistant crushed chrome. It's no wonder that professional skiiers prefer Kromega III over any ordinary timepiece.
Woman's Voice: And I love Lady Kromega III. The sleek, space-age styling compliments any outfit. [ Woman's other hand presses one of the buttons ] And the clearly displayed perpetual calendar helps me to remember my many appointments. Would you mind? [ other person brings in a spare hand to operate the Lady Kromega III ] Thank you.
Announcer: Kromega III. It's like asking a stranger for the time.

Perhaps, as they are a school they could.. oh maybe... teach them how to tell time on a analogue clock?
Or would that be expecting far too much of the teachers when they have so many hours of teaching on how sex is fluid to cover?

Id have tests and give them 100 to read an analog clock. 0 if they cant. Too bad if it messes up their perfect 4.0 gpa. With our students, it's more of a struggle to get them to 60% so we can pass them with a relatively clear conscience. Ain't no 4.0.
