Deputies are investigating after a woman intentionally crashed her car into a Broward Sheriffs Office station in Pembroke Park.
Deputies said the woman deliberately drove into the Pembroke Park/West Park Broward Sheriffs Office, located at 3201 W Hallandale Beach Blvd. just after 11:30 a.m. Monday.
However, officials said, her motive remains unknown.
Mendez, who was working inside the station said the woman was engulfed in flames inside the vehicle.
I have grandchildren, so when I see people in need, I try to help, Mendez said. She was on fire. It kind of traumatized me.
He was painting the interior of the BSO substation when the woman driving the car plowed into the station.
It was a big explosion, like dynamite, Mendez said. So we came outside to see if maybe it was a car accident.
Mendez said he was shocked when he saw the woman on fire.
When I opened the door, she was engulfed in flames, he said. I proceeded to pull her out of the car. I ripped her clothes off, put her on the ground. Made her roll, just thinking it will take all the flames away from her.
Firefighters also said they found some sort of accelerant inside the car, but they did not say what it was. Accelerants were found in the vehicle, so that is part of the investigation, said BSO spokesperson Joy Oglesby.
The driver was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital as a trauma-alert patient.
She received third-degree burns on considerable amount on her body, said BSO Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane. She was speaking to firefighters upon the arrival at the hospital.
Mendez said he saw her mumbling and said she did not want to live. Hopefully shes OK, Mendez said, that shell get medical help and stuff. But thats what I do. If I see someone in need of help, I do it. Thats my nature.
He said he believes the accelerant was gasoline. BSO did not comment on that, as they continue their investigation.
A BSO employee who was hurt while evacuating was also hospitalized.
The drivers name has not been released yet.
Time for car control legislation.
And we need to picket/boycott AAA for their support of these killing machines.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MORE? YOUR CAR OR YOUR KIDS?
Is this a technique taught on those Jihadi training videos?
Because if so, it needs some refinement.
Ill bet dollars to donuts she lost a kid at Stoneman Douglas.
“Ill bet dollars to donuts she lost a kid at Stoneman Douglas.”
You’ll know that’s true if the Coward County Sheriff’s Office refuses to release her name for some nonsensical reason.
BSO deputies were seen cowering behind the building.
When do students walk out to demand this deadly weapon be banned?
If that is the case, she should have crashed into the sherriff.
Was she driving an SUV?
Those SUV’s sure are nasty.
Yes, I read the headline, but when was the last time the LSM got a headline right, especially with vehicles, because LSM is always removing the operator from the equation in order to promote their agenda.
Earlier, did she tell the cop at the front desk “I’ll Be Back.”?
You’re right! Damn cars are nothing but killing machines and SUV’s are the worst! Who needs a fully automatic transmission SUV anyway? Won’t somebody think of the children? WON”T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN???!!!
Pembroke Park is a good distance away from Parkland and not nearly as nice.
Seems like grandparents, extended family, might be farther away...
Can’t believe some of the asinine comments over this story - try to imagine feeling so bad/helpless/hopeless that this sort of suicide seems like a viable option...
We are using the event as a platform to make a serious point.
A woman who dramatically crashed her car into the Pembroke Park district office of the Broward Sheriffs Office has been arrested.
Lasandra Johnson, of West Park is facing charges of arson and burglary for the crash that happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. Monday at the BSO substation at 3201 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd., officials said.
