I live out in the sticks.
I keep a pellet rifle near the door, because the grey squirrel population has gotten ridiculous; and the neighbors are too close to claim dominance with even a .410 shotgun.
She came home today in all her youthful glory, and i told her she had a treat waiting (a Twix bar); but we had to pull watch before she received it. Of course, she wanted to know what was necessary.
I pointed to the air rifle and said, "We have to watch that rifle; because you never know when it will jump up and get a squirrel."
Immediately, my little girl looked at me and said, "this is nuts". I replied, "well, a gun is dangerous isn't it?" She affirmed. I stated, "we should keep an eye on it then."
The look on her face was spectacular. "Dad, it's not alive. Someone has to pick it up to make it dangerous." I could not hide my approval, and she received her Twix bar.
While all of this transpired; my wife was listening and asked, "What do you know about guns sweetheart?", knowing full well where it came from.
"Keep your booger-hook off the bang-switch until your sights are on the target, and ready to fire." she replied.
At that moment, on the TV, the local news station started talking about the "student walkout". It was perfect. She's just a 2nd grader.
I couldn't have been more proud of the look on her face listening to the news. Today was a good day.
Not just for that, they want these kids to run for offices and ban guns. Thats the end goal. Never bothers them what they pass or do is unconstitutional.
It is a legislative lobbying effort. Who is funding it? Are they registered lobbyists? Any international collusion to influence our politics?
It ain’t over yet.
That pendulum....it’s a swingin’.

Nice. If we still teach our young whats right all hope is not lost.
Sweet story. Thanks for sharing.
Your comment about coordination made me think you might enjoy my response to the local rag’s article on the engineered “walkout”:
Students feeling unsafe are the result of scheming by adults for the adults political purposes. The facts are that the lifetime odds of dying in a mass shooting event are 1 in 11,125. Compare that to the lifetime odds of dying in a vehicle accident (not motorcycle) which are 1 in 491. Crass manipulation of a vulnerable population like the peer group of the aficionados of Tide Pod consumption is reprehensible. The Soros-financed anti-gun group, Everytown for Gun Safety, is especially guilty of this with their totally debunked claim of 18 school shootings in the first 45 days of 2018. Yet, US media moguls propagated such manipulation without the first critical thought about the motives of those making the statements.
In the meantime, those who actually understand firearms and have taught gun safety across three centuries, the NRA, regularly get savaged by such manipulators and their willing partners, the media. Clear explanations of the multiple system failures to address the specific issues present in the accused perpetrator in Florida are minimized and drowned out with cries about we must do something. Obviously, something needed to be done and responsible agencies shirked a clear duty to act. Yet nobody from the do something crowd can say exactly how their proposals will make it different when so many omissions and failures are already in evidence.
Never let anyone who thinks eating detergent is funny or a good idea for “likes” get anywhere near a position of making policy.
And honestly, their parents need a good ass kicking also.

Congrats, great child.
Curiously, young children have naturally the spontaneous common sense, no-nonsense way that are gravely impaired when they reach puberty and above, when high dose of hormones and school leftist indoctrination kick in.
So eternal vigilance is required, they are out after our kids.
children are gods blessing. keep up the good work on raising her.
WOW.
I might be behind the curve; but what you said is exactly what i thought in my head the entire time.
Spontaneous common sense. How heavy is that? I never pushed anything... but what i said stuck.
Guess what commie-leftists? You’re not getting my kid while i’m alive.

I’ve gone through this before; and it haunts me.
F’n puberty. It’s gonna hurt someone.

Great story.
Thanks for posting.
Oh man, that is classic.
I would add to the lesson “and always assume it is loaded.”
It sounds like you are doing a great job! Your kid wont me a mindless talking-point repeater like those silly children yesterday.
“Using kids to try to undermine our 2nd Amendment”....
A prime example of “brainwashing”. Having filled those young mush heads with liberal ideas and there you have it, perfect evidence”
If your car was made in the age of ‘soy in everything’, your cars wiring is insulated with soy wiring, making it bait for critters. I have a big problem with mice in the wiring of the plow truck for that reason.
It’s never too early to learn about SUV’s!

My 30-year-old daughter, now a school teacher back east, recently lamented the fact that not every girl had a daddy that taught her gun safety and shooting skills when she was growing up. Yes, it was a proud moment!
She was also angry that her school would not allow her, a woman with demonstrable shooting skills and with a concealed carry permit in her state, to have a biometric lock box in her classroom in which she could secure her .45 for use as required.
I am proud of the woman she has become, and can't wait to help teach the grandkids shooting skills (something I know their parents will do)!
