and not on the fancy keyboards now adays... no ... we learned on MANUAL typewriters and built those finger muscles up so much we were able to type fast enough to lock the keys :)
And some of us wound up staying up all night to compose papers because we had procrastinated. I had a small manual typewriter. Oh, how I remember the agony of nearing the end of a page only to realize that I had an error that could not be rectified using the correction tape. Seems like it was often in the dreaded footnotes area. Remember how we made superscripts?
