I read constantly. The little ole ladies at the library didn’t think I should be reading Uncle Tom’s cabin. I had to read it out loud before they would do it. Even though my Mom had already told them to let me check out whatever I wanted.

Mom taught me to read using the daily paper before I started school. I got hooked out politics watching Kennedy and Nixon.

Our library had these summer programs that awarded stars or something for each oral book report. The library ladies would sort of roll their eyes and then say,”We know you read them all.” I think they got tired of seeing me there.

I don’t remember learning to read. I think I followed along during bedtime stories and by the time I was four, I could read.
