FULL TITLE: Ten-month-old French Bulldog puppy dies on a United Flight after air crew 'order its owner to put it in overhead compartment'
A ten-month-old French Bulldog puppy has died after a United Airlines flight attendant allegedly told the dog's owner to put it in the overhead compartment.
The owner boarded United Flight 1284, from Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport to New York's LaGuardia, on Monday, with her puppy in its carrier.
But fellow passenger, June Lara, who sat behind the owner on the flight, told Chron.com that a member of the flight crew said the animal should go in the overhead bins.

Hmmm... I’m always amazed at how little some people understand the bond a human can have with an animal; especially a dog.
If you came here and said your child had to sit in the back of the plane because it was crying too much and then it died; how would you feel if someone here said to get over it? In Africa they eat people and little kids. It’s the same thing.
One would think airline employees would be used to dealing with pets. A relative of mine used to bring his cat with him when he flew over here.
They deserve it.
Wife just got back from flying United to and from the mainland (5+ hr flights). She is royally pissed they no longer have in-flight movies OR the usual music channels.
Pay for dog food, no surprise.
Hawaiian Air has all of that, no reason to deal with United, now to find out how to use up United miles some other way..
believing your customers are scum is exactly how United trains its people
That would eliminate Sheila Jackass-ly from stealing someone's 1st class seat in the future.
Freepers can slam me all they want, but thank god for Emirates and Eithad Airlines and airlines like em, there is a reason why both of these are in the top ten in the world, which is funny because American Airlines used to be the best in the world, and set the standard for air travel service, now they have fallen so low.
“It was a damn dog. In Korea, they eat the puppies. Deal with it, it was a dog. Get another pet.”
This isn’t Korea, and what Koreans do with puppies doesn’t justify this. Take your cold-hearted crap somewhere else.
I was on an American flight (LAX-CLT) with a guy that had his cat in a carrier that he’d bought a seat for. He told me it had made many such trips with him.
“believing your customers are scum is exactly how United trains its people”
Dollar to a dime that mentality is what the upper management has at these US Airlines, they view them as numbers to be milked not customers, and that’s why they suck compared to the east airlines.
I agree - Continental was usually solid, friendly, and logical. United was dumb enough to cut or even end some of the most profitable (and constantly full) flights Continental had. Markets that United had little to no flights to (International).
I do NOT like United and have, so-far, been successful in avoiding using them. Thankfully, for 100% of the flights I have taken in the last few years, United has never even come close to being competitive in price (unlike Continental that use to be quite competitive in most markets - while maintaining solid service).
I think United is going the way of British Airlines.
United’s theme song should be “Come fly with us, come die with us” because it sure isn’t “Puppy Love”.
I will never fly that effing airline again
Boy I misread that comment. I skimmed dead dog and rub salt...My brain jumped to a recipe.
no, you should not compare the death of a child, your child, to a pet.
i love my dogs and cats, but i LOVE my kids. there is no comparison. I would kill my dog to save my daughter.
You sound like a PETA type.
When my niece was in medical school in the Caribbean, she used to bring her little cat home in her purse.......
Agreed -
There was a gradual change in the early 1990s. Before the early 1990s, I only flew US carriers because service and reliability was usually superior. ( Singapore Airlines the exception )
There was a period when US and foreign airlines had roughly the same service and reliability.
However, today US airlines are simply awful compared to their foreign counterparts. I travel not so much these days for work, but absolutely will not travel on a US carrier if a alternative exists.
tragic
There has to be a real disaster for me to get on an airplane. What used to be an enjoyable event has turned into a stressful nightmare. Rude ass employees and inconsiderate passengers.
