Realistically, if you were gradually tasked with confiscating firearms from citizens, how would you react? Additionally, what is your take on how your precinct as a whole would react?

I am not a law enforcement officer, but it is my understanding that in Australia, foreign troops were invited in to accomplish the task.

Two answers: (1) I won’t (and it is really just a fear-mongering topic), (2) I might go door to door and ask you if you have a gun. Regardless of a yes or no, I mark down, no, and move to the next house.

But it is silly to think we have the time, money, or man power to get even 1% of the guns. We cant even get them off of known felon gang members.

I wouldn't do it and I highly doubt many of my fellow LEOs would do it either. There's always a few democrats who sneak in, but they're in a small minority.

Here in Arkansas, we know that outright confiscation won’t happen. I mean, seriously, the broke rednecks and methheads that spent a month’s paycheck for an AR 15, are NOT going to give it up. Gonna be a lot of “blue flu” calls if forced to do it. Luckily our Gov and AG aren’t gun grabbers at all. Cops know that grabbing billy bobs AR is a good way to get “kilt”.

There is no way I would follow an unlawful order. That seems to be the universal response among the people I work with.

Now, there have been times I have even been accused of not following lawful orders, but that is another story.

We already have the answer. In liberal LA during the 1992 riots, the cops, confronted with a mob armed with bottles and rocks, hopped in their cars and drove home to protect their families.

In the 70’s, 80’s and early part of the 90’s most Officers would talk it over and decide to turn a blind eye to any
sort of gun confiscation. Most officers back then were hunters and fishermen and had family members and friends that were the same.
Such a gun confiscation, the officers would realize, would eventually catch up to them maybe not until they retired but
eventually they would be caught up in it.

Nowdays the difference is in the hiring policies of most cities.
The best applicants weren’t always hired and ex- military
and fit young men were being passed over for more diversity.
Women , minorities, gay and lesbian and even immigrants were the preferred candidates for the academies.

I wouldn’t be surprised if in most cities the officers would obey any order and just reason, “ hey , it’s the law”.

I wouldn’t obey any orders to confiscate firearms, but I’d also never serve in a law enforcement capacity in the first place. There’s no doubt in my mind that most of the police in my area would do exactly what they’re told.

Liberal cities will certainly combine it with code enforcement, might as well make wads of cash while searching Serfs homes with "probable cause".

Rural Sheriff's will probably take a different tack, possibly expanding Reserve Deputies ranks.

Most of the guys I worked with in the mid-70’s and 80’s did hunt or fish. But the difference was most of the guys on the job were there because it was not a job, but a profession. They took pride in the work they did. That started to change in the late 80’s when there was a push to diversify police agencies.

Before, a person couldn’t take a promotional exam until they had at least 5 years on the job. Then it was changed to 2 years. You had guys with very little street experience becoming first-line supervisors. It’s never been the same since.

So I would guess you would have some that would resist the order to confiscate weapons, and you would have some who would not see the illegality of such an order.
