Trump planned to reveal something to us in his speech, to the whole country. But he found out that CNN was prepared to cut him off if he did, so he pulled back and is holding on until a future opportunity.

My take is that "too deep" is a reference to Q-drops. Nothing in the speech was too deep. Incendiary, sure, but not revelatory.

CNN cutting him off while other carried it would be inconsequntial - the remarks would be covered. If the remarks were that controversial, they would be used against him. See pressure on Obama not an NBC. Multiply times a thousand for Nazis are still in charge.
