FULL TITLE: Shocking new pictures lay bare Death Row inmate's injuries from botched execution he said was so painful that he just wanted doctors to 'get it over with'

A Death Row inmate wished for death during a botched execution that saw him stabbed 11 times in the legs and groin with needles.

Doyle Lee Hamm was due to be executed on February 22 for the murder of Patrick Cunningham, but the procedure had to be called off after doctors were unable to find a vein.

Hamm, who was too weak to stand after the ordeal, was left bleeding from the groin and urinated blood an hour later, a medical examiner's report says.

Bernard Harcourt, Hamm's attorney, had warned ahead of time that cancer treatment had left him with compromised veins and that he was likely to be subjected to 'cruel and needless pain.'

Harcourt has now launched a legal suit against the Alabama Department of Corrections, saying Hamm's treatment amounted to torture.

On Monday a medical examiner's report including new images of Hamm's injuries were filed which give an account of his suffering.

According to an interview with Hamm carried out by Dr Mark Heath, an anesthesiologist from New York, on the night of the execution he was taken into a chamber with around nine people inside and strapped down to a gurney.

Two men dressed in hospital scrubs then took a leg each and worked their way up attempting to find a vein.

right, it’s hard to botch a .45 to the back of the head.

Then again, perhaps we should send them to Planned parenthood. They’re good at executions.

Just one.45 caliber injection to the middle of the forehead would have gotten the job done!

So why is this news? The guy murdered people without remorse. Why didn’t they kill him? If they can’t find a vein use a 45,coup de grace.

Oh, I’m sure there’s plenty of pain. It just doesn’t last long, and the condemned won’t be fussing about it more than a few seconds after.

Good grief. With all the opioid overdoses, just shove some fentanyl into him and be done with it.

Considering the crime, wood chipper seems an appropriate end to the perpetrator.

I agree. There have been way too many horror stories from lethal injections. The sentence is death. Not death by slow torture. We need to go back to hanging. And this guy needs to have his sentence commuted to life in prison w/o parole. Seriously. This is nuts.

Morally, I am on the fence about capital punishment. Seems to depend on what day it is. Sometimes I’m against it and others I can’t but believe that it’s mandated out of need for some semblance of justice in this fallen world. God can forgive any sin, but if there was no responsible application of law in the earthly realm there would soon be utter anarchy.

That being said, nitrogen asphyxiation is the way to go. Elemental gas that’s abundant and costs less than nothing. No drugs to find a vein for or discard because of expiration date. No need for anesthesia for that matter. Just fill the chamber with nitrogen and the condemned peacefully goes off to sleep and never wakes up.

“So why is this news?”

Because the poor baby suffered a botched execution. Meanwhile millions of real babies die a horrible death!!

Those injuries look consistent with the ones I have when Iget my blood drawn every 6 months for my doctor visit.
Just shoot the SOB and be done with it.

So maybe now he knows how his victim felt.

Ah Yellow mama. Back when executions were efficient. The chair was yellow because they used available highway stripe paint.

No sympathy. While I can pray for his salvation which is up to God, he should have been put to death right after his trial.

Boy, did I get hot reading an article The Long Defense of the Alabama Death-Row Prisoner Doyle Lee Hamm by some damned liberal writer for the effing New Yorker magazine.

She spewed out a long, detailed article, and NOT once...NOT ONCE! mentioned the name of the young man, Patrick Cunningham, that he murdered.

Nothing. Did his victim have a wife, parents, kids, friends who mourned him? Did his victim serve in the military, go to college, have dreams of getting ahead? NOTHING. Not a single effing word.

Boy, did that piss me off. As far as I am concerned, this scumbag and his Leftist Lawyer too should have gone to the chair together. Damn, does this make me madder than hell.

With a just government and morally sound judgment on behalf of judge and jury, I’m in favor of it. Without a just government and morally sound judgment on behalf of judge and jury, I’m opposed to it. This man’s crimes were heinous and no one seems to be debating the fact that he did it, therefore his sentence was fair and just. But, if we stoop to inflicting pain and torture in carrying out such a sentence, we’re little better than he his. Just dispatch him painlessly and quietly, and be done with it.

I struggle with capital punishment as well. My understanding is that by the time you account for the legal cost of appeals etc, it costs more to put a criminal to death thanfor them to serve out a life sentence. It seems that the duty of the government is to protect the citizenry from future crimes. I agree that in our secular culture we seem to have forgotten that justice belongs to God and isn’t ours to deliver.

Now THAT’S an idea!

OK defense lawyer, put forward the absolute best case you can.

If you lose and your client gets the death penalty, you’re allowed to appeal.

If you lose that first appeal, you are free to appeal again. However, if you do and lose, you also receive the death penalty.

Hamm was convicted of the execution-style murder of a motel clerk. I have a hard time whipping up any sympathy for any pain he might have suffered, given the terror and suffering that his victim no doubt went through.

Sure do. Using a Dremel-tool looking device for intraosseous injection. Very fast and consistently reliable.

I have. I am extremely hard to find veins on, and have had the lab techs stab me out of sheer frustration trying to get lucky. I took it because I needed the blood drawn, but yes some of them will “take a stab at it” literally. My husband, who is a tough cowboy has made them stop and get other people to try just watching them stab at me. In an emergency once they literally took a scalpel and made a cut to get the vein quickly. Not fun to be hard to find veins on, that is for sure.

No sympathy from me for this man, they should have just used a bullet. He sounds like a whiner, I have had all that done to me just trying to get medical care. It is terrible but not cruel and unusual punishment!
