Police reveal they were called out 39 TIMES to his family home before his mother died last year.
He told authorities that voices in his head told him how to carry out the shooting.
According to his legal team he suffers from autism, depression and has other significant psychological problems.
Police were called to his family's home in Parkland, Fl. 39 times since 2010.
Cruz's adoptive mother died in November from pneumonia and the father died years before of a heart attack.
He also said he had 'trouble with a girl' and he believed the timing of the attack, carried out on Valentine's Day, wasn't a coincidence.
Lynda and her husband, who died of a heart attack several years ago, adopted Cruz and his biological brother, Zachary, after the couple moved from Long Island in New York to Broward County. Cruz was an infant when he was adopted.
It's unclear if he was adopted from the U.S. or aboard. Adopted children from abroad sometimes have issues adjusting due to neglect in their orphanages, especially children from Russia.

He’s a mental case. Everyone around him knew it. Back in the 60s and before he would have been committed. Then the leftist Saul Alinsky types thought freeing dangerous psychotics would help destroy America quickly.
Is there a spiritual reason for his psychosis? I don’t know or care. I see the destruction of the country by the far left. Those are the demons.
God bless those who adopt children from other nations. I mean that. God bless those who adopt - period. They give a priceless gift, and their sacrifice is tremendous.
My wife and I know several couple who have done so. We are inspired by them.
But it is not always a picnic.
On the good side, we know a VERY successful couple who adopted 3 Chinese children. They already had 4 children of their own, but adopted. Today, all of their kids (adopted and biological) are incredible.
On the not so good side, we know couple who adopted kids that live a nightmare.
One adopted girl from Romania is mentally ill and psychotic. She is destructive and criminal. They have tried everything and spent over $100,000 to get her help, but it is all for nothing.
Another couple adopted a boy from Africa. He is emotionally and behaviorally a mess, and has made life for their biological two girls a living hell. They constantly ask for prayer in how to get through this.
He looks like he may have fetal alcohol syndrome.

I don't find a murderer claiming "the Devil made me do it" to be particularly convincing evidence.
