Even though I believe 'Open Range' to be one of the Greatest action westerns ever filmed I find the courtship of Charlie and Sue to be some of the best and favorite romantic scene in film. The scene certainly capture a different time one of more respect for and of women not just by men, but by women themselves.
Not too many bad scenes. There’s some 10-shot six guns in the gunfight, but great movie.
May be they were using 1859 WALCH?

I would’ve fallen for Sue too.
The best romantic movies are also action movies. African Queen and Last of the Mohicans to name two more.
It has Robert Duval. Whats not to love?
One of the interesting trivia things about this movie is that in the gunfight (spoiler....there is a gunfight in a western) it was not shot in slow motion. Before reading this I guess I never noticed how often gunfights are shown slowed down.
As anyone who has ever been shot at can tell you, it might seem like slow motion...but it really happens fast.
There is only one part shot slow. It maes a difference. And it’s one of the movie making things that once you notice it...you appreciate when it’s done differently.
It's actually a dangerous place. Many cows are killed from vehicles that drive too fast at night. And, yes, sadly, on occasion people are killed by these collisions.
There are signs everywhere too indicating that this is Open Range, yet people (city folks, I imagine) still drive way too fast at night through this Open Range desert. I guess they can't imagine that a herd of cattle could be in the road. And at night, you just can't see them until it's too late.
Ok, sorry to highjack the thread. Yes, the movie was pretty good, as I recall.
‘Open Range’ the movie. NOT about stoves!//
At the start of the gun fight where Charlie blasts the “bad guy” professional gunman through the head is a seriously funny movie joke on gunfights. Also the shotgun blast through the wall that slams the targeted man across the alley is huge overthetopness.
One of my favorite movies, in the top 20 IMHO.
The best romance movie is Smokey and the Bandit.

Great Movie...
Got the DVD setting next to
LONESOME DOVE.
Huh? Romance movie at heart?
The entire movie is romance.....taken to a stretch:
The love between Costner and “Boss,” between the two young guys and Costner and “Boss,” and the dog and the.....love goes on and on, to mention nothing of the love between Costner and Bening!
The whole movie is a love story! Wake up! ;-)
That scene had an example of what I thought was unique about Open Range, its sound recording and editing. The sound of the shotgun, rifles, and pistols was different than in almost any movie I recall. It had a low frequency boost which the made sound of gunshots more like “booms” than “cracks”. This low frequency bias was present all through the movie, in dialogue and sound effects, especially in the interior shots, which gave the scenes a closed in intense quality.
Be hard to miss that...
