If the Wyoming volcano were to erupt an estimated 87,000 people would be killed immediately and two-thirds of the USA would immediately be made uninhabitable. I think they are searching for a gentle way to say that about 200 million Americans are gonna die. (Women and minorities hit hardest.)

And when? Last time I read about this it was something like in the next 10,000 years or more. Not next week.

I’m wondering who the first seismologist will be who asks for a grant to study drilling large wells and venting to relieve pressure.
Hell just the idea alone should be worth a few million a year in funding - You heard it here first people!

Wait for it... wait for it... nah.. forget that.
When something erupts every ‘million’ years or so I’m guessing we’re probably all safe for at least another millennium or two.

Oh well.
I guess it would be our turn if this happened.
Winter would last a bit longer this year.

However, they add these findings are no cause for alarm, and these measurements are consistent for a volcano which has been building up for close to a million years. Dry wit? ;-)

Nine paragraphs into the story you’re told there’s no cause for alarm.

Must be a slow news day in the old U.K. Yellowstone’s always locked and loaded. Several years ago I read Harry Turtledove’s “Supervolcano”. Harry writes alternate history like Hitler wins WWII and what happens afterwards in the US, UK and Germany and that kind of stuff. His novel about Yellowstone blowing the big one sets the scenes of what happens next and it is pretty frightening. And entertaining at the same time. Harry has a great mastery of humor.

Certainly not a recent photo...we have several feet of solidified di-hydrogen monoxide on the ground currently.

"occurring beneath the surface of Yellowstone which alerts experts"
"these findings are no cause for alarm"
So, it's an alert, not an alarm.
That would make the status "Code Ivory" as opposed to "Code Eggshell"

"If the Wyoming volcano were to erupt an estimated 87,000 people would be killed immediately and two-thirds of the USA would immediately be made uninhabitable. The large spew of ash into the atmosphere would block out sunlight and directly affect life beneath it creating a nuclear winter.
Women, children, and minorities hardest hit, of course.

I don’t know if it’s statistically abnormal, but there seems to have been a lot of volcanic and seismic activity worldwide lately. I’ve also been noticing public service announcements on TV warning about natural disasters. Do they know something is up?
