When Super Bowl LII kicks off next Sunday with the New England Patriots facing the Philadelphia Eagles, there will be more on the line than the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the winner. A season of turmoil and changing viewer habits has chipped away at what has long been the most durable TV franchise. As the league's marquee event, the Super Bowl has always been bigger than football, drawing non-fans who are partying with friends and watching the big-budget, celebrity-studded commercials priced at $5 million per 30 seconds that will be teased online and presented to an audience of more than 100 million viewers. Spending on Super Bowl ads has surged 35% in the last decade.

The Most Hated Team in the US v. The Most Vile Fanbase in the country.
Why do people hate the Patriots...because they win?
Don’t give me that cheating garbage, every team “cheats” to some extent.
My favorite coaches are Belichick and Saban, because they display Excellence, and we should celebrate Excellence where we find it, even if it’s not your favorite team.
I thought it had already been played this year. Doesn’t matter and don’t care. Just want them to go away. No more thugball.
I’ll be watching the puppy/kitty bowls instead.
Not one American will watch this anti American organization. I am confident of that.
I be ah skippin’ it
Just like I did last year’s “thriller”
Screw ‘em
The highlights will always be on YouTube.
I used hate them because they always beat my team.......
But since the boycott, I found I really don’t care about either my home team or the Patriots....
Can’t wait to watch all those field goals and gang-tackled 2 yard runs
NO NFL football the entire season
NO, double NO NO “super bowl” either.
My definition of a “Super Bowl” means a VERY LARGE TOILET with a lot of “turds” afloat, about to be flushed away.
We have watched SB broadcasts since SB I. This will be our first year not to watch.
I think I’ll go see 12 Strong during the StuporBowl.
12-Stong’s excellent! You’ll love it.
The Patriots are my favorite team, and the Eagles are my hometown team.
The two of them meeting in the SB should be a must watch, but I refuse to watch the NFL this year. The principle behind this boycott is bigger than my personal desires.
“Why do people hate the Patriots...because they win?”
That is mostly the reason IMHO.
No team has been as dominant as the Patriots and people are just tired of them I guess.
“Dont give me that cheating garbage, every team cheats to some extent.”
I want my fair advantage!-Hank Stram, KC Chiefs
Admittedly the Patriots and Belichick haven’t done themselves any favors.
They got caught putting a “spy” in the stands of an opponents practice. Something every team does.
Then Belechick ran off the field with time left in a game he lost. Bad decision Bill.
Then there was Inflategate.
A big nothing IMO.
Tom Brady can smirk with the best.
Does it matter that he is consistently a QB that wins? No.
Tom is a rich white guy with an even richer super model wife and the couple seem to be quite happy.
If Tom was a woman beating thug who was married with two or three baby mamas on the side he would be the most loved player in the league.
It seems nothing breeds hatred like hard work and success.
I won’t be watching it, even though I’d love to see Brady win again.
It’s okay to be Tom Brady!
And I admit, I’ve always liked Brady even back when he was still at Michigan.
“Take me in the Sixth Round, huh, I’ll show you”. He’s 40 years old now and that chip is still on his shoulder.
Can’t say I’ve watched every one; I spent a substantial portion of 20 years in some of those shithole countries the president referred to. Watched part of two Steelers games last year, but not a single game this year and, barring a major turnaround in the NFL, I’ll never watch again and can’t say I’ve missed it.
All that winning. But I think the way they win has a lot to do with it. They tend to not have major margins of victory, they just get enough. Which makes for great Super Bowls.
I think too a lot of people just don’t get Belichick. He’s so dry. He’s got this reputation of being no fun, but having been raised on British humor I think he’s freaking hilarious. But if you don’t realize he’s pulling one on you it plays as joyless. Like last year before the parade somebody asked him how long he’d celebrate this one and his answer was that they’re 4 weeks behind on scouting. There was a lot of coverage that read that as joyless, I almost fell out of my chair laughing.
