The actor behind purple Teletubby Tinky Winky, Simon Shelton Barnes, has died just days before his 52nd birthday.

Barnes’ niece Emily Atack – who starred in The Inbetweeners – posted a picture of her uncle on her Instagram page alongside a caption with the sad news.

Atack wrote: “My wonderful uncle Simon Barnes has been taken from us all so suddenly. The kindest and most talented man you could ever wish to meet. Loved by all who knew him, and will be forever. X.” The father-of-three found fame on BBC hit Teletubbies after replacing Dave Thompson as the purple teletubby, with a triangular antenna.

There is a long standing rumor that Tinky Winky extorted the rest of them. This may have been an assassination, a clown suit mafia type of thing. There is a union of clown actors that a friend of mine belongs to and you wouldn’t believe the drama, the hate, the guilt, the name calling. Many believe that the suits are just a way of covering up their hate, that suits attract haters.
Supposedly a story goes that all the suited ups of Disneyland at one time had plotted to take over the little tea cup ride and hold the patrons hostage for better working conditions and air conditioned suits. The guy that plays Goofy though, was an informant and shortly before it all went down, he had the authorities in to shut it all down. The mighty wallet of Disneyland covered it all up.

Oswald was my son’s favorite as well. I have them all recorded on VHS for his son or daughter.

Next favorite was Oobie, then Maisy.

You might want to convert those to a longer-lasting format ;-)

I thought the program was too weird for my taste and I never had it on for my kids to watch when they were younger. I’ll take Lamb Chop over Tele-tubbies any day.

Yea, I know. I haven’t had a good VCR in five years or so!

My son is 15 now! It’ll be a while before those shows are watched again. Just memories captured on tape!

This smokes the FBI and legal pot stories. Get this: His "flatmate" who he lived with is his ex-wife's cousin.

My wife and son will think I’m nuts if I buy those (but I just might get one or two with each Amazon purchase).

I especially liked the episodes with both Lenny AND Squiggy!

I’ve never understood why they didn’t put it all on DVD. It’s really a nice little show for kids, with object lessons and morals, wrapped-up in a very clever and engaging package.

I agree. How old is/are your kids that watched it? Assuming it wasn’t just you!!!

My son was 2 or so when we came back to the States for a while before going back again to Sweden. I had to record them all so we could watch them where ever we were.

I would just record hours of the Noggin Channel on VHS for continuous playbacks. But he loved Oswald so much, I just recorded them by themselves as well.

Great times when kids are toddlers.

Nope, it was just me. I hit upon it one day when I was home sick, and we had just gotten cable. I thought it was very cute and clever.
