A couple of months ago I stopped for gas in Moriarty, a town on I-40 east of ABQ. At the next pump there was a young couple from Massachusetts driving a new Penske rental van and towing a trailer with a Jeep Wrangler. The lady went to get some belongings out of the Jeep while the man went in to pay for gas.
I asked her if they were going to spend the night in Albuquerque and when she said yes, I told her they needed to get some heavy chains or locks to protect the vehicles or else they would not be there when they come out of the hotel the next morning. That scared her enough to say they would not spend the night there. I suggest Grants or one of well populated Indian casinos along I-40 west of ABQ.
At least once each week the press has a story of a rental van or towed trailer being broken into at best or completely stolen at worst.
That chart is so funny.
Your chart says auto thefts dropped dramatically during the run of the show (2008 through 2013). Hardly contributing to cultural rot. If it had any impact at all on auto theft (which it probably didn’t, most stuff is correlation without causation) it was contributing to civic pride which reduced crime.
