I played pitbull roulette while walking my 40# foxhound mix on a remote stretch of a bike path. We were walking down a steep and curving hill. About half way down I saw a medium sized woman looking at us and she had a death grip on the leash of a large pit pull. She looked terrified. We walked further down the hill and on the other side of the path is a man (probably her husband) with a tight grip on a larger pitbull. This was a bad situation and I probably should have turned around but didnt. I had a tight grip on my dog’s leash because she sometimes would lunge at other dogs and hoped that she wasnt stupid enough to start anything (doubtful). We made it through the pitbull gauntlet unharmed but I will never forget the look on that woman’s face.

Pits, pit mixes, and whatever euphemistic names they are called are dangerous to other pets and people...end of discussion. My wonderful neighbors had a couple, one male and one female. The male was friendly and normal in his interactions with me; the female acted like she wanted to kill me every time I went to the mail box up at the main road. I never went without my .45 in my hand; owners solution was ‘drive your car to get mail’ and they thought it was great entertainment I reckon. I don’t care if my neighbors have a rhino as long as it doesn’t threaten me on my own property. I won’t be bitten by a pit or any other dog on my own property if I can help it. Both dogs eventually died, hbc and heart worms I guess-not at my hand. Their dogs are continuously disposable.. Pits are especially popular with societal losers...they feel empowered by owning a dangerous macho dog I reckon.

Interesting article; the author seems to have come to the same conclusion.

Statistics don’t lie. Pit bulls were not bred to be companion animals. They don’t make safe reliable family pets.

The socialization that puppies are inculcated with by their litter-mates and mother between the age of 5 and 7 weeks is absolutely crucial to making of a well-behaved dog. Lots of dogs are removed from that environment simply because many people don’t want to hassle with puppies for an extra 2 weeks. Most of those dogs just become behavior problems. Pits can become a nightmare, given their physical abilities.

You see a lot of rescues really working to get pit bulls sanitized by saying “dogs aren’t born with certain tendencies”. In some circles they’ve become virtue-signaling fashion accessories. The trendy new pet.

Knowledgeable dog groups are countering with photos of sporting breeds pointing birds (with different breeds retrieving them) and of herding dogs putting sheep exactly where the shepherd indicates.

Pit Bulls require socialization, training and restraint. The average dog lover is woefully unprepared for that kind of responsibility. The criminals want to enhance Cujo’s aggression.

Yes the only person who can have a safe Pitt bull is somebody like Cesar Milan. They are a strong breed that needs constant oversight. Almost any dog will defend you and your property. It does not have to be a pit bull.

Pit bull owners were likely bullied as a child and owning one is a form of compensating.

Having a pit bull around children is careless knowing 90% of disfigurements is by guess who.

If you had a pit bull as a child, when older you need to have a good talking with your parents. Why did you do that?

My recent memory of a pit bull are these jaws of teeth lunging forward toward my face. I always jog with a huge knife to kill one quickly when necessary.

A lot of people do really stupid, self-defeating things. Owning dangerous animals. Smoking. Doing meth. Getting into bad sexual situations. Ultimately the problems usually stem from spiritual or cultural factors.
