Pope Francis admitted on Monday he was frightened by the prospect of an accidental nuclear apocalypse, as he began a weeklong visit to Chile and Peru to bolster a local Catholic Church riven by sex abuse scandals.

“I think we are at the very edge,” the pope told reporters aboard his plane when asked about the threat of a nuclear war in the wake of a recent string of tests by North Korea and a false missile alert last week that sparked panic in the US state of Hawaii.

“I am really afraid of this. One accident is enough to precipitate things,” he said.

The pope landed in Santiago late Monday on his first visit to Chile since becoming pope, and his sixth to Latin America. …

What you say is true.

But God enters into things; He has a plan for each of us, and a plan for the ones who didn’t get an initial, earthly ‘shove’. I believe that His inspiration is in every human being; and it’s all in the plan - even this so-called ‘Pope’ is in the larger plan.

Someday, we’ll understand how it all fell out.

Yes, I agree, and sometimes the only thing that keeps me going is knowing how small I am in the context of God, and faith that God has it all figured out.

As St. Mother Theresa put it, “Nuclear war is the fruit of abortion.”

Nothing accidental about it at all...

God has it all figured out.

In my opinion, it couldn't be otherwise.

But that doesn't relinquish us from the duty of doing the best that we can to make things right.

Venues like FR give us to opportunity to put IDEAS out there; so that people can see them, and perhaps become inspired by them.

You can go into an IRT station. Most of us don’t have that option.

As a typical modernist, he is not concerned about bad actors (agent cause), he is concerned about the weapons of war (instrumental cause) themselves. Similar logic is used by the gun control lobby.

He would do better to focus on the bad actors, and convince them to stop committing sins that cry to heaven for vengeance. Then wars would cease.

Another thought: It’s nuts to think that anyone is ‘small’ within the context of God.

I don’t think that God made anything ‘small’.

Everything that He made must actually be large and deep; and an integral part of an enormous plan; and in a way, you are dishonoring Him, when you think that you are ‘small’.

Be Yourself! He didn’t make you otherwise than unique; and that uniqueness - its desires, inspirations, imaginations - is part of the.....PLAN!

Thanks! It’s been a rough past couple of weeks. I’ll try to think a bit more positively.

Pope afraid? Alleged religious leader of Christianity, afraid? Faith mean anything Mr. Pope?

The more this idiot opens his mouth, the more thankful I become that I did not consider becoming a Catholic.....
