These Ellis Island documents reveal a surprising truth about Donald Trump's immigrant mother

Here's what Donald Trump has to say about low-wage immigrants on his website: "The influx of foreign workers holds down salaries, keeps unemployment high… We need to control the admission of new low-earning workers."

00:00 00:00 What Trump doesn't say, however, is that his own mother would once have fit into that category. When Mary Anne Macleod, who later gave birth to The Donald, first emigrated to the U.S. from Scotland at age 18, she came with only $50 in her possession and a job as a domestic servant.

The new details about Macleod's journey to the U.S. were brought to light by the Scottish newspaper The National this weekend, and are confirmed by public records from Ellis Island. They suggest that the story Trump has told about his mother in the past—that she came over to the U.S. on vacation and fell in love with Fred Trump, Donald's real-estate magnate father—isn't quite true.

I’m not an FDR historian, but I read somewhere that the progressives of his era admired Mussolini.

Back in the 1980s, some conservative magazine did a side-by-side comparison of FDR’s economic ideology and Mussolini’s economic ideology. They were virtually identical.

Interesting! Thanks for that information; it makes perfect sense.

so many times we are told a story by dad or mom about how hey met and got married. when I was about five it was a favorite of mine. me and my two sisters would have dad tell it and he never told the story exactly the same. I am sure that President trump was telling the truth to the best of his knolledge.

“Donald Trump is a Macleod: There can be only ONE!”

Ah, another Highlander fan. Just so that his opponents know, Trump may possibly be immortal (unless you take his head...and he assuredly has the best sword that money can buy at his disposal to prevent that). :>)

WRT the actual issue in this thread: First, his mother had a skill (albeit not the greatest one in the world, but a skill nonetheless - and a willingness to WORK), and probably never took a dime worth of the public’s money. Second, $50 back then (circa 1920) was worth about $700 in today’s dollars, and was equivalent to about 1 1/2 weeks of wages. She was also staying with her brother - so didn’t need to spend any of her $50 on rent. She wasn’t set up badly at that point...and the fact that she could go back to Scotland a couple years later attests to that fact.

Lots of nothing, just like virtually all of the media’s criticism of Trump.

Oh, and P.S., Scotland wasn’t a shithole country, nor did people literally crap or pee in the streets there (well, besides the drunks...and they are in every country).

According to The National, Reid left in 1920 after she scandalously had a child out of wedlock. On May 2, 1930, Macleod's ship left Glasgow, Scotland for the week-and-a-half journey across the Atlantic. She turned 18 years old the day before arriving in the Big Apple.

Huh, she reached puberty at age 7 and had a child at 8?

she went back to Scotland four years later in June 1934 and returned three months after that

Because every immigrant who "intends to stay" leaves the country for months.

Either way, she wasn't an illiterate, spoke English and didn't wipe her butt with her hand. The woman had a job so wasn't on welfare. And she came here LEGALLY.

And most people with a job today are worth more than almost all of the Founding Fathers - so what? Scotland was never a shit hole. This is more of the liberal trick of pulling down rather than building up.

She was of Clan Mac Cleod.

Trump is the Highlander.

He defeated all his opponents and absorbed their energy.

We watched it happen.

All we need to know.

Bones never lie.

Anyone with artistic or forensic talent can see it practically screaming the truth.
