Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Chris Wray made an unannounced visit to Speaker Paul Ryan's office Wednesday as the Justice Department grapples with an increasingly hostile faction of House Republicans demanding documents related to the bureau's Russia probe.
Rosenstein was spotted entering Ryan's office, and a spokesman for the speaker confirmed that Rosenstein and Wray had requested the meeting. A second person familiar with the meeting said it was related to a document request issued over the summer by House intelligence committee chairman Devin Nunes.
Nunes (R-Calif) has mounted an aggressive push with the threat of contempt citations for members of the FBI and Justice Department to glean more information about how the FBI handled a disputed dossier alleging illicit ties between President Donald Trump and the Kremlin.
Unfortunately, DOJ/FBI's intransigence with respect to the August 24 subpoenas is part of a broader pattern of behavior that can no longer be tolerated, Nunes wrote to Rosenstein in a letter provided to Fox News last week.
Nunes is seeking details about meetings between FBI officials and those who helped compile the dossier. He also demanded interviews with a slate of top FBI officials. And he's floated the notion of issuing contempt resolutions against Rosenstein and Wray if they fail to comply.

Running for cover...your time is up Rosenstein. The deadline was today.
Deadline Tomorrow For FBI To Turn Over Documents To Intel Chairman Nunes
Did they bring documents and names with them?
Giving him the heads up on the Rinos involved?
Well then the visit wasnt unannounced, was it?
Yeah, we can't let the truth out into the open, can we? Might finally get the rabble roused.
I guess begging for an extension on the subpoenas in person works in the swamp.
So when is the Contempt of Congress declaration?
Two capos of the Swamp visiting to see if they can arrange something with Ryan the Fixer!
with respect to the August 24 subpoenas
And he's floated the notion of issuing contempt resolutions against Rosenstein and Wray if they fail to comply.
What a F*ing joke. How long would Joe Six-pack be able to get away with this crap?
A worthless investigation, which may lead to recommendations, which might result in a Special Prosecutor to launch further worthless investigating resulting in recommendations which can't be enforced because the statute of limitations have run out.
Mr Speaker, do you really want us to release (in deep background) all of your secrets that are in the FBI files? Sure many are unsubstantiated but you are from Wisconsin, you must remember how that DA went wild on Scott Walker and his supporters in that “John Doe” case. Do you want a similar experience?
So did they try to arrest him for interfering in the coup?!
This means Nunes and Goodlatte have the votes for contempt and the swamp has to offer something to get Ryan to shake some of those votes off?
The FBI and Justice Dept. are so corrupt I wonder if they can be saved. I hope so.
Unannounced? Must not have wanted him to have any time to prepare or get Nunes and others in there to argue back.
Maybe they brought pictures of Ryan in bed with someone other than his wife?
There won’t be one, that’s what this meeting was about. Ryan will tamp Nunes down for a little longer, until after the OIG report is released.
However, it was unannounced to the press.
It is nice to know that the FBI director is directly involved in document production to congress. So it is just not the holdover swamp creatures running interference.
That boat has already sailed along with the simple-minded notion that the IRS is a honest collector of taxes. These swamp creatures are betting that their historical shine will stand to the tarnish that we now see. I am betting that it won't and that another decimation like unto the end of the J Edgar Hoover era is past due!
Blackmailing Ryan into squelching the Congressional investigation?
Uh, it's a little late for that, isn't it?
