Superheroes may have met their greatest adversary Jodie Foster.
The 55-year-old has claimed Comic book movies are ruining cinema.
In an interview with Radio Times Magazine, the actor and director slammed the likes of Marvel and DC production as the cinematic equivalent of fracking.
'Going to the movies has become like a theme park,' she said.
'Studios making bad content in order to appeal to the masses and shareholders is like fracking you get the best return right now but you wreck the earth.'
She continued: 'Its ruining the viewing habits of the American population and then ultimately the rest of the world.
The two-time Oscar winner, who directed the likes of Nell, The Beaver, The Brave One and Money Monster, insisted she didn't want to make '$200m movies about superheroes.'
However, she would consider a superhero protagonist if they had 'really complex psychology'.

Is that Gollum in drag?!?
there is a place on line and at every theatre where they sell tickets. No one forces anyone to buy or not buy tickets. there are dozens of onlone streaming options.
It’s a shame Teddy was a progressive. But at least he wasn’t an over-the-moon leftoid progressive. He insisted that we be loyal Americans who spoke English.
Celebrities . . . what DONT they know??? *grin*
Celebrities know they can get the attention of the average American.
They can’t...writers no longer have any imagination, have lousy vocabularies, and so they turn to prequels, sequels, remakes, ghetto language, car crashes, outright pornography, CGI, badly rewritten “history”; all in all just utter garbage.
So maybe she should get off her dead ass and make a decent hollywood product for a change. Setting her crosshairs on clooney and penn might be a good start, but one suspects theirs are the kind of junk she espouses.
How true!
Sadly, you are correct.
Is she complimenting the movies with her reference to fracking?
I agree with her about too much crummy superhero crap, but the fracking analogy is asinine. Just what we can expect from Greenie Leftards.
I agree. That’s why I stay at home mostly and watch You Tube or buy what I want from Amazon or find an occasional goodie on Netflix. But it was really cool to take my kids to see Churchill at the movie house. A rarity for me.
Didn’t Jodie Foster star in Silence of the Bearded Clam?
Comic Book characters are great ‘entertainment’.....if people weren’t enjoying them they wouldn’t continue putting them out there...... They’re a great escape from serious issues facing the world where one can just relax and enjoy BEING entertained with fantasy and fun flicks.
Though I do not watch many the few I have with family members have been great.
Using my process of movie elimination leaves very few movies to attend: No hollywood history (think “Dances With Wolves,” “JFK” etc), biopics, political garbage, comic books or cartoons.
You know film making has hit a new quality low when the person running the CGI lab has more input than does the director, writers and actors combined.
I, as well as a large segment of the population watch movies for escapism, there is plenty of drama and rotten reality all around us every day, so much so that we are loath to pay outrageous ticket prices to watch it on the big screen and support ridiculous paydays to people who despise us.
It's interesting how loud mouth elitist entitled athletes are discovering the same thing about the real America vs. the limited fantasy America they live in.
yes, we need more adult movies and I mean it in the most general sense.
I’m truly excited about Entebbe in March. I hope it’s very good. It looks it from the trailer.
Agreed!
You and me both
Super heroes are politically correct engineering
And it gives ever feminized earning class males a projection of power they o longer have
Women as a super hero actually are better than men
And so forth
I won’t watch that crap
