In a little over a decade the world could be plunged into a 'mini ice age', scientists have warned.
Temperatures will start dropping in 2021, according to a mathematical model of the Sun's magnetic energy.
This, they say, will lead to a phenomenon known as the 'Maunder minimum' - which has previously been known as a mini ice age when it hit between 1646 and 1715, even causing London's River Thames to freeze over.
The study says that between 2020 and 2030 solar cycles will cancel each other out.
The model of the Sun's solar cycle is producing unprecedentedly accurate predictions of irregularities within the Sun's 11-year heartbeat.
It draws on dynamo effects in two layers of the Sun, one close to the surface and one deep within its convection zone.
Researchers, led by maths professor Valentina Zharkova at Northumbria University, built up on previous research that predicts magnetic waves produced by the sun.
However, she has warned her model could not be used as proof of a mini ice age - in part because of global warming.

We’re talking year round winter over most of the world, with some relatively warmer areas south of Texas, north of Panama. Europe, Russia will be mostly submerged in ice. North Africa will be very wet, the Sahara will blossom. Like that.

I think you and I must have read the same report!
Here’s a guy who if right, then we really really need global warming and lots of it.
https://www.iceagenow.info/
The thing is there is more physical evidence (not computer simulation!) to support this guy’s case, then there is for catastrophic warming.
The bottom line is there will be a major cooling (glaciation!) again simply because past history says so it’s just a matter of when! The last major glaciation was not the last ever major glaciation! That would only be if the case if something extraordinary happened regarding earth and all the interacting (nonlinear!) geophysical systems that make it up.

About Smilodon...
Smilodon is an extinct saber-toothed cat which lived approximately 2.5 million to 10,000 years ago from the Early Pleistocene Period through the Modern Period. It was first discovered during the early 19th century and was named by Peter Wilhelm Lund in 1842. This cats name means saber-tooth.
One of the most fascinating facts about Smilodon is that while it is often referred to as a saber-toothed tiger, it really wasnt a tiger. No, tigers are in fact descended from the Panthera tigris family. Smilodon is actually distantly related to modern lions and cheetahs.
Just by looking at Smilodon pictures, you can clearly see that these cats were very ferocious. They were approximately 5 feet long, 3 feet high and weighed around 440 pounds. That makes them smaller than a modern lion in length but is also means they were a little bit heavier.
What seems really scary about these cats, however, were the size of their teeth. Their canine teeth were almost a foot long. However, its teeth were also very brittle and would often break off while they were using them. And once one of their teeth had broken, then it would never come back.
Smilodon also had jaws that were exceptionally weak. This combination of weak jaws and brittle teeth meant that this carnivore really couldnt bite down with much force. Thats not to say they werent dangerous because that isnt true at all. These big cats still managed to take down their prey without a whole lot of problems.
Paleontologists believe that it hunted by jumping down on its prey from tree branches. Then when it landed on its prey, it sunk its teeth into its neck. It would then leave its prey to bleed to death and then when it was dead, it would come back and eat it.

Here in New Hampshire I was praying for global warming but all I got was a mini ice age.I lived in Epping for 14 years. My son was born in Exeter Hospital. That was back when it was still Conservative and the Old Man was still on the mountain. We moved away not long after he fell. I have some great memories of that state.

There's an advantage to a sustained cold snap. It can kill off the dormant larvae of a lot of various pests.
A very cold winter in '79-'80 got rid of the gypsy moths for years.
