'Wonder material'flexible as tin foil becomes harder than a diamond when it's hit by a bullet
Daily Mail ^ | 22 December 2017 | Catherine Chapman

A wonder material as flexible as tinfoil but hard enough to stop a speeding bullet has been created in the lab.

Diamene is made using two layers of graphene, the world's first two-dimensional material which is just one atom thick, a million times thinner than human hair.

Such a substance could be used for anything from water-resistant protective coatings to ultra-light bulletproof armour.

Excellent. Although I did glance at that ridiculous pic, I admit I didn’t even notice the casing!

Rest assured Dude, the ‘experts’ and all the buttmunchers have unanimously testified to their extreme competence.

Billionaire Bloomberg and his “Everytown for Gun Safety”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everytown_for_Gun_Safety has often made the same mistake. Some person once handed him a revolver, and he asked, “is the safety on?”

Of course the round casing stays on.
That’s settled balistics.

I understand your point. The point that I would like to make is this: if the experts are as brilliant as they claim to be, they would have certainly have insisted on a final review of this embarrassment.

I don’t fault the artist.

PS. Merry Christmas!

As someone bashing my head against my keyboard today, along with my academic partner, for yet another article overloaded with mistakes after hours of interviews, I can guarantee that the writer never got back to the scientist. Years ago I remember writing an editorial that started with “Thank those of you who didn’t believe I said that.”

Instead of being snarky, why don’t you contact the artist and tell her? I’m sure she wants her art to be accurate, and she’s a well known science artist.

I noticed that too. Ella Maru needs to watch the Cartridge vs Bullet journalist tutorial.

LOL! I've run into quite a number of people that don't know the difference. I wonder what they would think of a paper cartridge from The Civil War?

They finally successfully reverse-engineered the “tinfoil” from the Roswell flying saucer crash....

Thanks to modern medicine and nutrition we can throw
cartridges farther and harder than our ancestors could.

And the cartridges are harder too! lol

Reply #27 by mairdie pretty much says what I would have. The writers and artists always get it wrong, no matter what you do. Life’s too short to fight futile battles.

Merry Christmas to you!

I think that the military potential will accelerate development. It would be quite something for US troops to be more or less bullet proof.

Sounds like another miracle material “just right around the corner”...

Just like me ... all cynical because that personal jetpack promised by Popular Science back in the 60's never showed up!

It’s a new gun safety feature. Pull the trigger and the gun expels the entire cartridge. It might sting if it hits you in the eye, though.

unless the mass/energy of the bullet is spread the shot is going to do a lot of damage.

But graphene is for real. Smart people would figure out the best ways to invest in it. Soon it’s going to be extremely pervasive in almost every area of manufacturing that you can think of. A proper investment right now could become a literal gold mine.

I wish some savvy freeper would seriously figure out and help the rest of us know how to best invest in graphene. Many Conservatives could mightily be benefitted.

For a change let’s be smart rather than snarky. Why should we be so stupid as to let lefties be the only smart ones concerning making all the vast fortune to be made from the most extraordinarily, amazing product of the century?
