1973, Cabbage Patch Kids. My wife worked at a Toys R Us then, They had Clarkstown, NY’s finest patrolling the parking lot to break up the fights. It really got crazy after the Holiday when they released the Black Cabbage Patch Dolls, and it was White people fighting over them. Our Black friends thought it was hilarious.

It’s amazing...I can remember what I got for Christmas back in the 50’s, but I can’t remember what I had for supper last night.

I think that is why my mom didn’t buy it. That and money was used for essentials.

I had one of those Mr. Machines!
Me, too. My Mom bought it at the old Alexander's Dept Store on the Grand Concourse in daBronx.

1939: official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time

(Actually, the “year you were born” does not make sense. I think these were the most popular toys in the years listed, so you would have to subtract about 8-10 years to get the matching birth year.)

Ya. Life was tough. :)

Like me, you probably had to make your toys out of rocks and sticks and mud.

Me too. But it didn’t matter because we were poor. My old Dad used to say to me, ‘Money doesn’t buy you happiness.’ And he was right. I was happier then and I had NOTHIN’. We used to live in this tiiiny old house, with greaaaaat big holes in the roof. We had no need for toys then.
