Florida has reported more mumps cases in 2017 than the last five years combined

At least 56 cases of mumps have been reported in Florida in 2017, a significant rise over prior years but well below outbreaks in other states,
which have reported hundreds of infections this year.

The 2017 count includes confirmed and probable cases, said Brad Dalton, a health department spokesman.
Dalton said the health department publishes a monthly surveillance report for mumps and other diseases,
though the most current report is for November and counts 54 cases.

“The Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine is the best way to prevent all three conditions,” he said.
Yet, in at least half of the cases, the infected person had a documented history of the MMR vaccination, according to the December advisory for physicians.

The actual number of cases, however, could be higher, in part because some people who get the disease have very mild or no symptoms,
which include fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, loss of appetite and swollen and tender salivary glands under the ears
— which causes the telltale puffy cheeks and swollen jaw.

Symptoms typically appear 16 to 18 days after infection, but the incubation period for the virus that causes mumps can range from 12 to 25 days.
Most people with mumps recover completely in a few weeks.

I guess in your zeal to slam anti vaxxers you missed the part where the article said more Than 50% of those contracting mumps were fully vaccinated. The numbers usually run much higher than that w/70-80% of people contracting mumps in outbreaks being fully vaccinated. But don’t let that get in the way of your preferred narrative. Maybe it’s time to stop blaming vaccine sceptics and look at the vaccines themselves. If we are having outbreaks Amongst fully vaccinated populations (& we do, frequently) the unvaccinated aren’t the problem

I hope the anti-vaxx crowd is happy.

No one has ever died from the mumps. The fatality rate for the vaccine exceeds that of the disease.

Just sayin'

Not true. The mortality rate is not zero and you can still end up with encephalitis, meningitis, orchitis or permanent deafness.

That said, having had mumps as a child might be protection against developing ovarian cancer.

No , others have pointed out that Puerto Ricans have higher vaccination rates than many states.
I believe that to be correct !
However, the Puerto Ricans do bring Socialistic tendancies to the mainland,
and the 200,000 Puerto Ricans who have relocated to Florida may, in fact, change the voting demographics.

Consier getting a 'booster shot' in another year, or two, if covered by your health insurance.
Recall that in the original article, the CDC says that even with two vaccinations, coverage was 88% for juveniles.

I just looked it up. It appears another one will follow.

“Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. ( Minimum age: 12 months for routine vaccination) Routine vaccination: Administer a 2–dose series of MMR vaccine at ages 12 through 15 months and 4 through 6 years. ...”
