As a Steeler fan who just endured that game:
I only have one thing to say about the ending of that game:
As I understand the rule of a “pass catch” it is when a player 1. --- takes possession of the thrown ball , THEN 2. ---- makes what they call “a football move”. That is what determines a catch. 1 and 2.
(This rule I believe was first employed just a few years ago concerning a catch and a subsequent fumble. A catch was determined a catch if the receiver took control of the ball and then made “a football move” before he may fumble it when hit.) --- a pretty crappy rule no matter what.
Well……….. our Steeler player definitely 1. -- caught that ball and had complete control over it, then 2. --- reached out (IN “A FOOTBALL MOVE”)…… never having been touched by the other team (not that that is at all relevant) …….he reached over the goal line and as the ball was in his grasp the ball hit the ground slightly but the ball was still in his grasp.
That is a CERTAIN CATCH AND TOUCHDOWN because he took control of the ball then (reached over the goal line—“a football move”) with the ball and kept control never having been touched by the opponent. Touchdown.
1.--- It was a completed pass THEN 2. --- he made “a football move” reaching into the end zone -- that term is in the rule book. He landed in the end zone keeping control of the ball AFTER THE CATCH AND “THE FOOTBALL MOVE”. (Even if he “bobbled” the ball slightly, he had made a catch AND made that required "football move" as he reached over the goal line. ) Total horsesh*t call.
If the NFL had any balls (that aren’t deflated), they would admit they made a HUGE MISTAKE for the owner of the Patriots, Robert Kraft.

The Steelers outplayed those New England characters most of the night, except for that beastly tight end of theirs.
Well……… we’ll see them later this year, and I don’t care where that game will be played, we may have Antonio Brown back for the entire game then.
The Patriots are going down the next time, no matter where it is played. (jmo)
After that now famous “Calvin Johnson” game my thought was
“That’s a stupid rule they should change, but it sounds like the refs correctly interpreted the stupid rule”.
Haven’t gotten around to changing it, just made much more logical changes like destroying kickoff returns and adding crucifixion as punishment for roughing the passer.

I get it, and I get the rule interpretation. I’m not arguing the final decision now, after due contemplation. But, in real time, it sure looked like a catch.
For one thing, the initial camera angle was from behind, and it looked like he’d maintained possession when hitting the ground, so the consideration of that was a surprise. It was only when they showed the slow motion view from the front that I could see what happened when he fell—the ball clearly hit the ground and shifted in his hands.
As to the rule: The goal-plane thing has been so ingrained in me, that I thought it was of the same magnitude. Conflict of laws, so to speak. If a runner has the football, reaches over, and then loses possession after he breaks the plane, it looks like a fumble, but is in fact a touchdown. I’ve seen touchdowns where the runner’s possession looked more iffy at the moment of plane-crossing than this one did. Further, I’ve seen sideline passes where the player bobbles the ball as he goes out of bounds, but then secures it (no catch). This looked like he had more secure possession in his hands than either of those cases.
So, visually, it didn’t look so great.
But, I understand what the refs were looking at, and why they decided it after due consideration. That took some guts to do in Pittsburgh!
The Steelers have won more games on bogus calls than any team in the NFL. Plus Tomlin is an Obama boot licker and a cheat. (Look up when Tomlin tried to trip a player). So screw them

This horrible call was but one in many the officials have made over the years and ALWAYS in favor of the Pats.
I patiently await the day some clown with a pituatary gland problem grabs their quaterback and breaks his leg ala Joe Theisman.

Yes. Many of the most exciting plays of football games, the kickoff returns, seldom occur anymore.
Totally insane. Make them kickoff from the 30 yard line or give the kickoff guys some of Brady's deflated balls to kick off.

LOL. I actually think the refs could have called pass interference on that last interception in the end zone ........ the Patriot defender did push the receiver in the back as he reached with his other hand to tip the pass. Rogers thought he was pushed as is reported here in the 'Burgh.

Just watched First Take, both analysts say it was a catch and that the refs got it right the first time, say the replay officials misinterpreted the rule, plus there wasn’t even sufficient evidence to overturn based on that misinterpretation.
Nah. I'm a pretty content guy. Just hate the Steelers with a passion. :>)
Between tolerating the Kaeperkneelers and allowing awful, “studio wrestling”-quality officiating, the NFL is killing off its most die-hard fan base.
