Bethany Lynn Stephens had been gone for about a day since she left to walk her dogs. So her father went out to look for her at the area she frequented.
There, authorities say, he found her two dogs, guarding what he first thought was an animal carcass.
“Much to his horror, discovered that it was not,” Goochland County Sheriff Jim Agnew told reporters at a news conference Friday.
Investigators in Goochland, Va., a rural community about 30 miles outside of Richmond, say the petite, 5-foot-1 young woman, who weighed a little more than 100 pounds, was mauled to death by her dogs, which had a combined weight of about twice hers, while out on a walk earlier this week. Her father found her Thursday evening in a wooded area that used to be a farm, about a half a mile from the main road...
“The dogs clearly, at least in our estimation in a dark night, had something to do with this. It was an absolutely grisly mauling,” Agnew told reporters. “In my 40 years of law enforcement, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Hope I’d never see anything like it again.”
Officials from the county’s animal control department and sheriff’s office spent at least an hour trying to tranquilize the animals, Agnew said. Investigators also found bloody articles of clothing scattered in the area.

He was so much better than these hateful people.
He brought so much happiness to everyone he met.
To deal with such blind hatred is beyond me at this point.

I would say that while we should withhold judgement until all the information is in to determine if her dogs did indeed do what they say, we should also withhold judgement without knowing the nature of the dogs.
Another Freeper commented that there is much abuse going on in the breeding of these dogs (and not just in the area of pit bulls) but at what point do the negative characteristics of a bad breed override the good characteristics of a good breed, especially in the case of someone who may be trying to do just that? Best we wait until we know the lineage of the animals.

For *years*, the liberals in MD sobbed over the poor black bears, protecting them from big mean men with guns.
No matter what havoc or ruin the bears caused, no one was allowed to even look at them wrong.
So then, the bears made their way down into the suburbs, where the liberals lived their cozy, Disney lives and began to wreak havoc, there, as well.
And after they did, as if by magic, we suddenly had a “bear season” and eventually, the rigid “no harm” laws have evolved into “if you or yours is in danger, you may shoot the bears”.

They instituted a trap ban, which banned the use of traps that could trap beavers, and we had a wild period of time where an upscale place got flooded by out of control beavers!
They obtained a dispensation to allow for trapping of beavers...that trappers were happy, the residents were happy, and no doubt, someone had a item of fur that made them happy.
All because we had to get the government out of the way from damage they deliberately and thoughtlessly implemented.
They need control.
It depends on the breed, really.
As you know, I have Dobes, which are not scared dogs, by any definition.
*However*, I also have bears and packs of “coyotes” [eastern wolves, actually] on the mountains above and around me.
At night, when those beasts are wont to roam, the Dobes go out to the northwest corner of the yard, where my fence borders the ridge of the mountain, and *sniff* mightily, looking back at me, all the while.
They don’t run and play or even pace the fence in an agitated manner.
They just stand and sniff.
Why?
They’re not stupid and they know they have no chance against 500 pound bears or packs of wolves.
That’s not what they were created for, *at all*.
And honestly, I do not *want* them engaging such animals since you just *know* I’d have to jump into the fray and I’m not big enough or bad enough to take on such things.
Better that they simply let me know the danger is there and I can gun up and take care of it that way.

The only other brindle like that is the “reverse brindle” in Boxers and it doesn’t look like a Boxer mix to me, at all.
That part of VA is full of hunters with Plotts and the pet adoption sites have tons of them looking for new homes, all the time.
Deer dogs, bear dogs and boar dogs are common things, in that area.
“Two Dogs”.....”Two Dogs”....hell they were Pit Bulls, so why not say it. The owner defied all reported data on this breed but went ahead and bought TWO of the creatures anyway. I have no sympathy for stupidity. And walking TWO Pit Bulls at the same time....I have absolutely NO sympathy for the galactically stupid.
I had not seen that, but...I am not in the least surprised.
It is easy to understand why humans view beavers (the animals) as nearly autistically industrious...because they ARE!
Those are some hard working critters. Hell, even the people who worked on the Hoover Dam just had to put down their tools sometimes!

I first saw that on one of my favorite TV shows called “What On Earth?” where they investigate strange, anomalous images that pop up on satellite photos.
They had to actually fly part of the way and then pack in, to see what it really was.

Pit bull type dogs attack and kill more people than all other types of dogs combined and you’ve never heard of them killing someone? A few years ago a few pits dragged a kid under a fence and disembowled him before commencing to dine on his flesh - this isn’t unusual for these dogs. Their
“prey drive” means even riding a bike past them can “set off” their desire to pull down and kill prey (person on a bike).

In particular in the videos I’ve watched of pit attacks over many years, the dogs love it - it’s the “prey drive” so they love to attack and kill. There are pits who haven’t maimed or killed yet but we can’t tell which ones will and which ones won’t. Lovingly raised pits kill as do mistreated ones.
It’s crushing to watch videos of people who no longer have a face as they are still in the hospital, fretting that the pit owner doesn’t have insurance so now the victim is destined to lose their house and face repeated surgeries etc.
No, not only do the pix look like PBT types (not a breed), but apparently everyone she knew considers them pits, no denials. Except the dopey friend denying they would ever do anything nasty.
Have to pretty thick to not recognize a Great Dane when you see one.

I stand corrected. But that does not change the fact that it was pit bulls and they could not be stopped.
