The Hallmark Channel is a throwback to an age when Hollywood produced family-friendly films and love stories that did not involve leather and whips.
The network has earned millions of loyal fans for broadcasting movies that promote the virtues of faith and family — stories that tug at your heartstrings. “We are a place you can go and feel good,” Bill Abbott, the chief executive of Crown Media, told the Washington Post.
“We intentionally branded ourselves as the happy place. Abbott said. “Hallmark’s tagline is ‘the heart of TV.’” And viewership has skyrocketed since President Trump promised to make America great again – making Hallmark one of the most-watched cable television networks in the nation.
For the sake of full disclosure, I’m a fan of “When Calls The Heart,” produced by my good friend, Brian Bird. It’s a great place to escape from the unhinged rantings of Rachel Maddow and Don Lemon.
But it turns out not everyone is a fan of Hallmark. Slate published a scathing review of the network — complaining about its around-the-clock Christmas movies. “They brim with white heterosexuals who exclusively, emphatically, and endlessly bellow “Merry Christmas” to every lumberjack and labradoodle they pass. They’re centered on beauty-pageant heroines and strong-jawed heroes with white-nationalist haircuts,” the Slate writer declared.
There were complaints about the lack of gay people and feminists and Muslims in Hallmark Channel’s movies.
Slate also whined about what it called the network’s “42 hours of sugary, sexist, preposterously plotted, plot hole–festooned, belligerently traditional, ecstatically Caucasian cheer.”
It’s true that most of the stars in Hallmark’s Christmas movies have a fair complexion – but to say it’s a holiday white-out would be inaccurate.
How many WHITES are on BET?
Anything Caucasian is bad, even “Cheer”.
Happiness appropriation?
And most of the stars on Black Entertainment Televison have very dark complexions.
Huh.
Funny how it works that way.
I watch the Hallmark movies often during this season. I’ve also avoided Slate since its start, so I don’t have to hear their off the wall garbage.
Yep. Loving families, married parents, respectful children, work...all white privilege.
That hypocrisy unmasking needs to be said all day every day for a month because that's exactly what the libs told us whenever we objected to something, "You can just change the station or channel if you don't like it. No one is forcing you to listen or watch."
[I hope Hallmark Channel will stand their ground.
Not everyone are comfortable with the mandatory gay sex scene in so many other shows.]

Watched one the other day it was called Christmas in Evergreen i believe.
it took place in Vermont and starred 3 black people in supporting roles....probably the only three black people that live in Vermont.
Last year the blacks were screaming about no representation in their Christmas movies looks like Hallmark surrendered to them this year.
So everything White is now being branded as evil. They laughed when I said that the left wants to eliminate Whitey, after taking all his money.
Doesn’t everyone dream of a white Christmas?
These people hate everything Christian.
Because they hate themselves, and they project that hate onto anything that doesn’t conform to their myopic worldview.
They want to spread their misery and hatred, and drag anyone down who won’t comply.
The UP Channel has a number of holiday movies starring black thespians.

My wife and I generally watch Korean TV these days. Much of it is a lot like Hallmark. (With English subtitles you are fine.)
American TV is too raunchy and degenerate for us.

Hallmark’s Caucasian cheer is precisely why I watch. If I want to see minorities in movies, I’ll tune in to the UP channel.
Maybe that should do a movie version of “Christmas In Hollis”

Nice to watch happy movies without wincing every so often. Not afraid to bring up Jesus and God. Makes me smile and have a little hope.
Centric and BET play movies with an occasional Caucasian sidekick or other foil. No one attacks them.
