Bryan Singer has been fired from the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, 20th Century Fox has told The Hollywood Reporter.
Bryan Singer is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody," the studio said Monday in a statement.
The decision reflected an escalating clash between Singer and actor Rami Malek and was caused by the helmer being missing from the set, necessitating the Dec. 1 production shutdown of the film in which Malek stars as Freddie Mercury, frontman of the rock group Queen. The pic has been shooting in London.
In announcing the shutdown last week, producers Fox, New Regency and Graham King initially said filming was being suspended because of Singer's "unexpected unavailability."
Trouble began when Singer went missing during production on several occasions. His no-shows resulted in cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel having to step in to helm some of the days while Singer was absent.
Tom Hollander, who plays Queen manager Jim Beach, also is said to have briefly quit the film because of Singer's behavior, but was persuaded to return, according to one source.
Malek complained to the studio, charging Singer with not being present on set, unreliability and unprofessionalism.
Singer had been warned before production began by both Fox Film chairman and CEO Stacey Snider and Fox Film vice chairman and president of production Emma Watts that they wouldn't tolerate any unprofessional behavior on his part. A representative from the Directors Guild of America also arrived on set to monitor the situation.
The growing tension led to a confrontation between Singer and Malek, which, while it did not become physical, did involve Singer throwing an object. Subsequently, however, the two are said to have settled their differences and filming was expected to resume.
But then Singer did not return to the set after the Thanksgiving break and is believed to have been in the U.S. for about the last 10 days, according to one source. In his absence, Sigel stepped in to helm several days of shooting before the production was shut down. Singer's prolonged absence was the final straw, and so the studio decided to terminate him under his pay-or-play contract.
According to another insider, Singer has claimed he is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder because of the tensions on the set.
The studio, which has about two more weeks of principal photography remaining on the film, is expected to name a new director within the next few days.
Who is Chao?
“Singer has claimed he is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder because of the tensions on the set.”
What do you expect from a drama queen homo fag? I have never heard of PTSD due to filming until now..
Sounds as if Singer’s really worried about something back in the US. Wonder what that might be?
It should be “Chaos.” I missed the last letter when I copied it.
I guess because of all that ‘shooting’ of the film maybe?
He’s a child molester.
One less movie to watch on-line for free.
WTH? A film’s DIRECTOR is simply not allowed to claim PTSD from the set.... he is the one who gives everyone else PTSD!
Anyway, Brian Singer sounds like a real POS from what’s been said about him lately..... good riddance.
I looked him up. He is a Homosexual that likes to molest little boys. I suspected as much when his bizarre behavior was mentioned in the article. He sounded like a drama queen.
Turns out he is a queen.
Even if that was the case, couldn’t he still get what he wanted in Britain too?
Ah. Since it was Singer, some of us assumed that was a young boy’s name.
“The growing tension led to a confrontation between Singer and Malek, which, while it did not become physical, did involve Singer throwing an object.”
Bryan Singer is openly homosexual and has a lot of photos floating around of him being physical with very young men. Some look underage.
What’s reported here is so full of irony. Singer made a name for himself with his first mainstream film, Usual Suspects. Kevin Spacey was the star, though it was an ensemble piece.
So we have an openly-gay director / producer who launched his career working with recently self-outed gay actor accused of sex abuse of underaged males. And Singer gets kicked off a DIRECTING job doing a bioptic for an openly gay singer who was lead for a band named for a slang word for being homosexual.
In Usual Suspects there is a group of homosexual cowboy-dressing men who represent the gay mafia (which Singer says is a real thing). The film does not portray them in a positive way. I’m not making this up.
The ironic icing on the cake of all of this is the scene in the film in which a member of the homosexual mafia flicks a lit cigarette at Stephen Baldwin’s character, and it literally hit him in the face by accident. Sounds like life repeating art.
For what it’s worth, Rami Malek is of Egyptian descent and was raised in a Christian home. Bryan Singer is ethnically Jewish. Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar and grew up in India. He was born into the Zoroastrian religion, but his parents sent him to a Catholic school. I think he was ethnically Persian (Iranian) but some sources say India-Indian.
Is Garth Algar taking over the job?
If Vic Morrow had survived that helicopter crash, he might have had PTSD from making Twilight Zone: The Movie.
Interesting summary, thanks! My understanding was that Freddy Mercury’s family were Parsis: Zoroastrians originally from Iran, but with multigenerational residence in India.

Sexual abuse allegations[edit]
In 1997, a 14-year-old extra accused Singer of asking him and other minors to film a shower scene in the nude for the film Apt Pupil. A lawsuit was filed but dismissed for insufficient evidence.[43][44]
In April 2014, Singer was accused in a civil lawsuit of sexual assault of a minor. According to the suit filed by attorney Jeff Herman, Singer is alleged to have drugged and raped actor and model Michael Egan in Hawaii after meeting him at parties hosted by convicted sex offender Marc Collins-Rector in the late 1990s.[45] Singer’s attorney called the allegations “completely fabricated” and said Singer planned to countersue.[46] Singer denied the allegations in a statement calling them “outrageous, vicious, and completely false.”[47] On May 22, 2014, Singer’s attorney presented evidence to Federal District Judge Susan Oki Mollway stating that neither Singer nor Egan were in Hawaii at the time.[48] In early August 2014, Egan sought to withdraw his lawsuit via a Request for Court Order of Dismissal, and asked that it be granted “without prejudice or an award of costs or fees, in the interest of justice.”
In May 2014, another lawsuit was filed by attorney Jeff Herman on behalf of an anonymous British man. Both Singer and producer Gary Goddard (who was also named separately in the first case) were accused of sexually assaulting “John Doe No. 117.” According to the lawsuit, Goddard and Singer met the man for sex when he was a minor and engaged in acts of “gender violence” against him while in London for the premiere of Superman Returns.[49] The charge against Singer in this case was dismissed, at the accuser’s request, in July 2014.[50]
Singer is cited in the 2014 documentary film on child sexual abuse in Hollywood, An Open Secret, though the film makes no specific allegations against him.[51]
Author Bret Easton Ellis alleges that two of his former partners have attended underage sex parties hosted by Singer and fellow director Roland Emmerich.[52]
In the wake of revelations regarding Harvey Weinstein’s extensive history of sexual harassment and assault in October 2017, allegations against Singer were revived. Ira Madison III linked Singer to an alleged culture of pedophilia in the Hollywood film industry.[53] After Kevin Spacey was accused of sexual assault later in October, journalist Erin Strecker noted that Singer’s name began to trend on Twitter and connected the two phenomena.[54] On November 6, 2017, seven students at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, created a Change.org petition to remove Singer’s name from the School’s Division of Cinema and Media Studies. Their petition was picked up by British newspaper the Daily Mail and film entertainment website The A.V. Club.[55][56] In the midst of these events, it was noticed that Singer had deleted his Twitter account.[57]
Someone sent me a tweet where it said:
Bryan has left the Queen biopic to spend more time with your kids.
I hate that the rumors that have finally surfaced regarding this creep have gone on so long that his whole gang have probably gotten rid of tons of evidence & photos. D*mn shame.
