Della Reese, who segued from pop and jazz singing stardom in the 50s and 60s to a long career as a popular TV actress on Touched by an Angel and other shows, died Sunday night at her home in California. She was 86. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and pastor, as well as an award-winning actress and singer. Through her life and work she touched and inspired the lives of millions of people, actress Roma Downey, Reeses co-star on Touched By an Angel, said in a statement announcing Reeses death. She was a mother to me and I had the privilege of working with her side by side for so many years on Touched by an Angel. I know heaven has a brand new angel this day. Della Reese will be forever in our hearts. Reared in gospel, Reese became a seductive, big-voiced secular music star with her No. 1 R&B and No. 2 pop hit Dont You Know in 1959.

David Cassidy about to join them, sadly.
On a happier note, wannabe musician Charles Manson went on to his final reward at long last.
I seem to recall that Fred G. Sanford’s ideal women were Della Reese and Lena Horne.
"Don't You Know?"
Soul Music, R & B, Blues, Jug Band, etc. was such a contrast to the Hip Hop crap of today.
ALready died....................
Della and Redd. RIP.
She was also a panelist on the original Gong Show and fit in well.
Very sorry to hear of her death. Prayers up for her family.
And now she really is Touched by an Angel. I loved the show but always wondered how they could have a show about Angels and never mention Jesus. God was mentioned often but never the one way to get to God, through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Yes, she had a strong voice.
RIP Grand Lady!
“Della Reese is my niece”
RIP, “Don’t You Know” will last, while much of today’s music will not be remembered.
I follow Roma Downey on Facebook, and she’s been repeatedly requesting prayers for Della, without explaining why. I think most of us figured it out.
Were getting old. Great show. RIP.
Not yet.
I get set for orange juice,
and there’s just a swallow left.
Nice song! Thanks.
Jesus did make it on a special two-parter. I think it was in the last episode of Season 7 where a handiman/carpenter who carried away dozens of school children when the school burned down turned out to be Jesus himself. Monica bowed to him. He had a trial and was prosecuted by Satan himself when he admitted he was at the school.
If my memory is correct, the man that played that carpenter was Randy Travis!
Wonderful woman. May she rest in peace.
At least she got out before someone accused her of sexual harassment!
