Della Reese, who segued from pop and jazz singing stardom in the 50s and 60s to a long career as a popular TV actress on Touched by an Angel and other shows, died Sunday night at her home in California. She was 86. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and pastor, as well as an award-winning actress and singer. Through her life and work she touched and inspired the lives of millions of people, actress Roma Downey, Reeses co-star on Touched By an Angel, said in a statement announcing Reeses death. She was a mother to me and I had the privilege of working with her side by side for so many years on Touched by an Angel. I know heaven has a brand new angel this day. Della Reese will be forever in our hearts. Reared in gospel, Reese became a seductive, big-voiced secular music star with her No. 1 R&B and No. 2 pop hit Dont You Know in 1959.

“You shot my pinky toe.”
Such a beautiful talented lady. RIP Touched by an Angel was a great show.
Wonderful show it was indeed. What a beautiful legacy.
RIP
I liked Touched by an Angel.
RIP Della.
As an aside, so far as I know, people who die do NOT become angels. I hear this said quite a bit and it slightly annoys me.
Della Reese, Mel Tillis, Malcolm Young, Fats Domino...they’re dropping like flies!...................
Loved Touched By An Angel..you would never see a program like that today, talking about Love of God..Della was a beautiful soul, amazing actress, may she RIP
RIP. I really liked her.
Seems no one can really identify where this "theology" started. Almost like it started with It's A Wonderful Life.
I loved that show. Caught a bit of an episode last night on one of those Retro channels and was wondering about Della Reese.
RIP.
I heard one of her songs on satellite radio the other day. Wonderful voice. I know I have many of her records (they were my grandmother’s) but nothing on which to play them!
RIP
Interesting trivia bit: She was the first black woman to guest host The Tonight Show. RIP.
that little black, gnarled crusty, dead mf’er ?
a half way decent movie
Read a story one time, where someone was at an airport, waiting at the gate for their flight. Della was there also.
While everybody was quiet doing their own things, she boldly and rather loudly, asks for an answer to a crosswords puzzle question.
After that, she goes on to the next and so on. Soon had a lot of the people “helping her” with her crosswords puzzle.
Somehow, I don’t think she really “needed” the help.
People do not read the Bible. If they had, they would know that angels do not become men and men do not become angelic beings.
More importantly fallen angels cannot be saved. Jesus died to save men, not angels. Men can be saved from their sin by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. Demons "believe and tremble" because they know what is in store for them -- eternal torment in the lake of fire.
I barely remember that show but I do remember her being really sweet.
Rough week for the music industry....
