A supercomputer programmed to think like the notorious Zodiac killer produced some creepy poetry when fed all the known writings of the elusive criminal, it was learned Thursday.
A University of Southern California professor created an artificial intelligence software that was designed to help crack the code of the Z340, the Zodiac killers famous cipher.
The ciphers, which were sent with letters to the police and newspapers in Northern California during the 1960s and 70s, contain letters and symbols that may hide clues as to the killers identity.

Very interesting. Thanks for the link.
a supercomputer progammed to think like the Zodiac mass-murderer?
what could possibly go wrong with THIS?!
/sar
Happy to help.
I forgot to mention one of the more disturbing aspects of artificial intelligences built with machine learning. Once they’re built and trained, everything that the machine is learned is basically a black box to the developers. They really don’t know how it works or processes, it just does.
I think Professor Knight appears to have an unhealthy fascination to the point of trying to look like the police sketch, myself.
I can’t imagine studying crime. I’m glad others want to, but the concept would probably just give me permanent nightmares. I want to pretend that the world is composed of sweet and gentle people who all care for one another.
And remember to keep my door locked.
Nicely played
Dumbass
Awesome observation !
After all its not like this supercomputer would be connected to the AI net when the time comes.
But, not to worry. Remember, the prime directive is ‘Not to harm humans’.
Definitely creepy.
well, yes. but if its programmed to think like a mass-murderering maniac, then that prime directive might not help much
We were so terrified my mother actually had to lie to us and tell us that the police had killed a man who confessed as he died that he was Zodiac. That's the only thing that would get us to calm down. And it worked.
Sympathize COMPLETELY. I was afraid of watching news because I was a child during the Korean war and was certain that the bombs described were going to fall on our house. Took years to realize that’s why I left the room every time the news came on.
As for blessed mothers, when I dreamed of being chased by a white polar bear, mother brought home a white fur trimmed hat and explained she’d caught the bear, turned it inside out, and had a hat made from the fur. Now all I think is YUCK!
There’s a mini series, “The Hunt For The Zodiac Killer” on the History Channel that started this week. This super computer and how it’s being programmed to “think” is being covered. Interesting.
Ted Cruz’s dad killed JFK!
Lighten up Francis, Ted can take the joke and so should you.
Any more of that you’re getting a suspension.
The Z340 is the Zodiac’s famous cipher that was sent to police and newspapers during the serial killer’s murdering spree in the San Francisco Bay Area.
He shot and stabbed seven people, five fatally, in a 10-month period, between December 1968 and October 1969.
What is amazing is how many of NSA’s Code Cracking military step children were assigned to bases which did code cracking in the Bay Area. AirForce, Army and Navy code crackers, and supposedly no one cracked Z’s codes.
About 2 years ago a book writer/author in this Post Zodiac area toured local libraries and touted his books about the Zodiac.
Apparently, one of our former military code crackers attended one of these lectures and made the following comments:
The Zodiac was Russian or one of its republics. He had attended either a Brit highschool or one of their colleges based on their analysis of his postings.
He concluded that, the higher up American spooks knew the above, and who the Zodiac probably was.
There would have been all types of fall out if that was true.
So the Zodiac spy, either left the area or had “an industrial accident.”
