Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday pushed back on the immediate need for a second special counsel to investigate former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
It would take "a factual basis that meets the standard of a special counsel" for the Justice Department to make such an appointment, he said during a heated exchange with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) at a Tuesday House Judiciary Committee meeting.
Jordan made a fiery case for allegations of improper spying on the Trump campaign by the Obama administration DOJ that widely touted amongst Capitol Hill Republicans.
Sessions at first demurred, noting that Comey is no longer the director of the FBI and praising the current director, Chris Wray. But pressed further by Jordan "He's not here today, Attorney General Sessions, and you are" Sessions appeared to throw cold water on the immediate need for a special counsel.
"I would say 'looks like' is not enough basis to appoint a special counsel," he said sharply.

Alright, so apparently we will need to hire Fusion GPS to put together a fake dossier. That is what was used to appoint Mueller.
You can't be serious.
Sessions has recused himself of the investigation and he has left the compromised Rosenstein.
OMG, fire this clown.
How will that be different than currently?
Great point! Several other posters already alluded to Sessions' blinding hypocrisy, but that exposes it in full detail. I think Jordan would have gotten there himself if he had been granted some additional time. And I don't think they even let Gaetz loose on him.
Sessions just got himself fired as AG. There’s no salvaging his reputation now.
Sessions will *never* open a Clinton investigation because he knows if he did so, the tendrils from the Clinton Foundation would be wrapped around half of Congress. He has too many friends who benefit from the current corrupt system to crack it open.
The intel folks must have some good dirt on Sessions.
“The intel folks must have some good dirt on Sessions.”
I would guess it is more payoff than the stick. Sessions is too tepid to ever have done things that are salacious. All those Saudi hundreds of millions sent to the Clintons...probably bought hundreds of people in positions of importance...probably still buying more of them today. It’s so much easier to control people by making them wealthy.
Sessions is not even clever enough to pull a Comey. Yeah, well there were some problems, but no intent to deceive has been found.
I agree.
But DOJ has no inherent conflict of interest which is the basis of the Special Prosecutor laws and tradition.
I honestly dont think he meant for his true feelings to slip out. It was right near the end and he just couldnt keep up the lies any longer. They need to schedule him for six hours next time or threaten to pull some of his funding.
The conflicts you mention are real, but can be compartmentalized within DOJ (at least that’s valid legal reasoning).
Sessions appears to be correct on the law. However, I believe DOJ is derelict in it’s prosecutorial discretion.
Conflicts in which a SP are expected by tradition and demanded by the expired law are conflicts associated with the POTUS.
The only one who should be impeached is Sessions. What a mistake to take him out of the Senate.
Ok....all the slimy defenders of this POS drop to your knees! Told you so! LOL
I am sucker too. This guy is a buffoon. Its now “nothing to see here on Klinton” but “I believe the Roy Moore BS” without knowing a single fact.
Getting Moore to the Senate will help make it easier to confirm Sessions’ replacement. So it’s no wonder why Sessions and the rest are dumping on Moore.
B-I-N-G-O
Was his name-o.
Kneel before rrrod!
If Trump fires this guy now or soon, he likely gets stalled to replace Sessions until Trump gets a few more Senate seats.
We are likely stuck with him until after the 2018 elections.
