Third time in this week Comcast's DNS is messing up big time. First they blamed Century One earlier this week then their connectivity to CL's backbone was experiencing issues, now Comcrap is blaming "local service outages."
Getting really sick of Comcrap, unfortunately they're the only option in my area.
Anyone else on Comcrap having issues? Where are you? Is this another nationwide event that they're trying to squelch?
Chicago area here. (Spare me the Chicago jokes, I've either heard 'em all, repeated 'em all, or made my fair share up about Chicago and living near the murder capital of these United States.)

Doubling the DNS servers only doubles the opportunity of sabotage, better to address the problems and stop doing what is causing the sabotage.
These big companies like comcast, verizon, microsoft, and face book think they are safe thru their size, they are just the opposite. their size makes them more vulnerable.
DNS issues lately are getting worse. The issue is all the advertising and popup crap that has to be resolved. Many websites are getting so bogged down with loading third-party content that they are really suffering.
Introducing Pi-Hole it installs with one command line on any Pine-64 Device running a free version of Linux.
The great thing about it is, all the sites that I use that block anyone using and ad-blocker (such as Wall Street Journal, Forbes, etc..) are completely viewable AD-FREE using this solution.
yup, the northeast had at least 3 events this past week - most recent around 2 am fri -
first seemed to be system wide config issues, even using google DNS, brief -
last maybe just the comcast config.. but agree, might be third party overloads..
adblock plus helps, or a thinner browser like flashpeak slimjet...
I have Comcast. Internet slower then usual. Eve slower then usual using remote and CBS goes out from time to time like during bull and survivor. Ugh! Two different days. Haven’t watched blue bloods on DVR to see if cbs is still having issues

As others here point out you can configure your router to point a different DNS and I highly recommend you do so. I use OpenDNS over Google’s DNS as I want to give Google as little tracking data or info as possible.
The underlying infrastructure (connectivity) has to be there for OpenDNS to work. If the underlying infrastructure is misbehaving, OpenDNS isn't gonna make things any better.
I have Comcast TV and they are about to get an earful from me. They have removed the Weatherscan channel 101. That was the best thing they had on there aside from FNC. There is the regular Weather Channel, but it is NOT the same. I’m so mad I could spit.
I have Verizon for the phone and internet — but kept Comcast just because of the weatherscan101.
Anyone else have this happen??
It’s happening all across the country. They’re dumping weatherscan. I loved that channel.
Sure glad that Comcast is not an option in our area. I know personally of some complaints about them;not just what I see on here. Sounds like the best thing that could happen to them would be if they simply disappeared.
You don’t have to use Comcast DNS servers. You can specify which DNS servers you want to use. I have avoided the Comcast DNS outage because I don’t use their servers.
Google has free ones:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
If you don’t like Google, then there is a company called OpenDNS. Not only do they have free DNS, but also free family filtering of bad sites if you want it. But you can also use the DNS without any filtering

I stopped using ComCrap DNS ***years*** ago.
I use the Google Public DNS servers: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
My understanding was the problem was Comcast’s DNS servers were having the problem - not the connectivity itself. I’m in Indiana on Comcast and, I believe, ultimately go through the Chicago backbone as well but haven’t had any issues (and I use OpenDNS)
Comcast and several other ISPs had massive, national outages a couple of days ago due to a routing misconfiguration by Level 3, which is the GIANT physical backbone provider usd by many of the biggie ISPs.
When Level 3 finally made their fix, suddenly my Comcast networking went from basically dead to working very well. However, it seems to me like it has been hiccuping a bit occasionally since then.
I've done all the normal resetting of my cable modem, router and other equipment in my home (firewall, proxy server, etc..) and my service is still slow much of this morning despite paying for their highest tier Internet service.
As I use OpenDNS anyway, that hasn't helped. There's something else going on around here.
well, you can always call Comcast - they’ve actually been pretty responsive when I’ve had problems, either individual or neighborhood node issues. Aside from rotten cottenwood trees and auto wrecks taking down their lines, we do occasionally also have neighborhood node issues as well as individual problems. I lease my modem from Comcast and they’re replaced it multiple times over the last 15 years - average lifetime of these SOHO boxes is generally 18 months.
What’s really weird is that only my conservative links seem to be affected by my ISP problems. Youtube, Netflix, and Apple seem to load just fine.
