There is no doubt about it — the three UCLA players screwed up big time. And now the players may be facing additional charges.
UCLA Bruins freshmen LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were arrested earlier this week on shoplifting charges in China, where their team spent the week prior to Saturday’s opener against Georgia Tech. But things have gotten worse.

Couldn’t they have done something that wouldn’t feed already existing stereotypes? Stealing sunglasses? Really.

John Wooden used to begin the first day of practice for the upcoming UCLA season by teaching his players ( which included Lew Kareem Jabbar Alcindor and Bill Walton) the right way to put on their socks.
Sounds like UCLA needs to go back to Wooden ‘s assume nothing approach to coaching.

An anecdote to inform- My son played Division 1 basketball as a walk-on with an academic scholarship. According to him many of the players had no business being in a trade school, let alone a prestigious 4 year university. College athletics will someday be viewed as the plantation system of the 21st century.

Don’t you know it’s racist to tell blacks not to steal stuff. You just have to let them steal whatever they want so they can build up their self esteem. UCLA is such a progressive school and encourages all minorities to just be yourself.
They get a slap on the wrist here. Hope they go to jail for a year.

Good, keep them in China and let the Chinese judicial system deal with them. After they spend a few years in jail there, they can come back and appreciate the USA.
In fact, I wish there was a petition I could sign asking the Chinese government to treat them like they would their own citizens caught shoplifting. It would be unfair to their people to do otherwise.
Why should our government get involved? They got caught stealing, breaking the law in another country.
About 40 years ago, I had the misfortune to be temporarily housed at the "jock" dorm at college. I would concur with your son's assessment.
