An anecdote to inform- My son played Division 1 basketball as a walk-on with an academic scholarship. According to him many of the players had no business being in a trade school, let alone a prestigious 4 year university. College athletics will someday be viewed as the plantation system of the 21st century.

According to him many of the players had no business being in a trade school, let alone a prestigious 4 year university.About 40 years ago, I had the misfortune to be temporarily housed at the "jock" dorm at college. I would concur with your son's assessment.
