The republican percentage was the same as the 2013 election.
North Virginia, which is in reality an appendage of the DC swamp, went massively for the Dem and won by like 280K votes.
The candidate won by about 220K.
In other words, only the Washington swamp rats put him over in the state.

It also shouldn’t be surprising that Trump voter turnout was down when Trump was not on the ballot.
Even if Trump was on the ballot he’d have as much chance of winning Virginastan as he would California.
The democrat got 71% of Hillary’s vote while Gillespie only got 55% of Trumps vote. If there was any message being sent its that the establishment Gop was being rejected and those in congress who are fighting Trump. The Gop congress has not delivered.
