Director Kevin Smith said that he will donate future residuals from his films that were produced or distributed by Harvey Weinstein to Women in Film, a nonprofit organization supporting female filmmakers.
Smith, who has directed many films with Weinstein connections, including Mallrats, Chasing Amy and his 1994 directorial debut Clerks, got emotional while speaking about the allegations against the veteran Hollywood producer during the recent edition of his podcast, Hollywood Babble-On.
My entire career is tied up with the man. Everything I did in the beginning has his name on it, Smith said, adding that he spent many years lionizing and telling stories about Weinstein.
Miramax famously purchased Clerks after Weinstein saw the low-budget indie at the Sundance Film Festival. The studio also hired famed lawyer Alan Dershowitz to appeal the films initial NC-17 rating, and the Motion Picture Association of America changed the rating to an R.
Its been a weird fing week, Smith told his co-host Ralph Garman and a live audience at the Improv in Hollywood. I just wanted to make some X movies, thats it. Thats why I came. Thats why I made Clerks. And no X movie is worth all this. Like, my entire career X, take it, its wrapped up in something really X horrible.
The podcast episode, taped Friday, followed a week of sexual assault and harassment allegations against Weinstein, who was fired from the Weinstein Co., the film studio he co-founded. On Saturday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences expelled the producer.
Im not looking for sympathy. I know its not my fault. But I didnt X help because I sat out there talking about this man like he was a hero and like he was my friend and like he was my father and sh- like that, Smith

You’ll need to convert yourself to a lighthouse to be able to do enough virtue signalling to overcome that.
He’s the typical Hollywood leftard ahole. Hates religion, Christians, Republicans, Trump, Bush, conservatives. Did he mean residuals starting today or since the very beginning? Hypocrite.
Pretty sure he means the Weinstein collected money that is due to Smith.
Maybe if they cleaned up their mouths, they'd clean up their minds and ultimately their behavior.

Lol.
>>Director Kevin Smith says hell donate Weinstein residuals<<
Weinstein residuals are what started this whole mess to begin with!
He is talking about residuals being paid to him.
This is guilt talking, he knew all about Harvey’s proclivities.
No, they are residuals that Miramax (Weinstein’s company) is paying to Smith for his percentage on those films he wrote and directed for them.
I agree with you. The f word is freely sprinkled into every conversation, typically multiple times, with these people. They apparently fell cool and relevant using a profane word during interviews.
Sure. He knew. Now he feels guilty. Stuff like this happens even outside Hollywood (though a lot less often now than in the past).
No, not guilt. That’s justwhat his PR flak and attorneys told him to say to fend off any implications.
In a potted plant?
Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. Who’s gonna follow up?
Nobody. But ow he’s on record sounding like a “good guy”.
he is doing the shakedown payoff to buy protection.
(not as if he owned a man card to be revoked....)
He’s talking about donating future residuals. These movies are mostly played out. He’s already made his dough. The pittance that trickles in over the next few years means nothing.
What does Smith have against men filmmakers? Why not contribute to a group that does not discriminate?
Good idea, wish I had thought of it.
I disagree. Those residuals are probably a big part of his income, and he didn’t have to do this. I’ll give someone credit doing something good. Everyone who worked for Weinstein isn’t responsible for his actions.
