I went and pulled up the top 100. Wow - such memories. You know what’s significant? No rap. We could still listen before they killed pop with that crap. Afterwards it infected the airwaves, I tuned out of pop and Got into Latin, went South and never came back.

Yes released Drama in 1980. Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman had left the group and Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes (The Buggles: "Video Killed the Radio Star" fame) stepped in. The entire album sheered away from anything they'd done before and had a much heavier, bass-driven, almost 'metal sound. One of the tracks was a six-and-a-half minute piece called "Could it Really Happen" that really showcased what Chris Squire could do with a bass. It has a neat, looping symmetry about it.
I never much cared for the song on the first few listens, but it grows on me every time I hear and is easily my favorite from the album and of that yeareven against Rush's awesome Permanent Waves album!

"Tempus Fugit" does rock! I really like "Run through the Light," too. Drama is my favorite album of that year and all three of those are stellar Yes tracks from it.

1980 was very significant for AC/DC, being the year Bon Scott died. I didn’t care for what came after, I prefer the earlier, rougher, punkier AC/DC. Probably the peak of that would have been originally released in 1978, re-released due to the documentary “Let There Be Rock.”
