The NFL Is Seriously Concerned With Empty Stadiums

I'd love to blame this all on CK and all the other misfits with their silly temper tantrum, but the article doesn't mention this because the empty seats really have nothing to do with that.

Gameday attendance has been a problem for many NFL teams for years. Before he retired, John Madden used to talk about how distressing it was for him to announce games where many of the seats were empty. Two things are driving this:

1. NFL tickets have gotten ridiculously expensive, and most of the league's fan base is priced out of these tickets. This trend has been magnified in recent years with the introduction of seat licenses for new stadiums.

2. For all of its reputation as an action-filled game, there are few things in life more dull than watching an NFL game in person these days. You hear constant complaints about the endless commercials and other breaks in the action that have dragged the typical NFL game out to a 3.5-hour affair. Those are bad enough for someone watching a game on TV at home, but just ask yourself what someone can possibly be doing in the stands while all of these time-wasting interruptions are going on. I'll tell you what a lot of these fans have been doing over the years: They've been swearing they'll never sit through that sh!t again.

Rein it in, NFL. This is NOT what your core fan base wants, believes in nor sympathizes with.

Larry the Cable Guy said it best when explaining the Dixie Chicks fall from stardom after their liberal rant and insults from oversees about our country and President.

Paraphrased: You have to know your audience. Country music fans are patriotic. Insulting the country is like going to a trailer park and yelling, "Walmart Sucks!"

It used to be a game, not an arena for a political statement.
Let ‘em lose revenues until they put the game back on the gridiron and not on the grandstand!

I think the only way for this issue to be solved is for the NFL to force the New England Patriots to sign Kapernick as their starter and trade Brady to the Vikings. Otherwise, I’ll never watch another game...

Clever. I think you might be taking advantage of the situation. I think Kapernick should be Aaron Roger's back up QB. And so does Aaron Rogers. I'm betting you are ok with that too. ;o)

Gee, I wonder if the Cowboys are having the same problem.

Oh, I don’t know. Maybe the average American is offended by watching a bunch of overpaid thugs run around with a ball while lamenting the racism of America???

This is right on....these players are grossly over paid

It would seem the fans are “taking a knee” from attending football games. I wonder if the issues are related.

They say the NFL is concerned with empty stadiums and then mention only two cities. Well Gillette Stadium looked pretty packed last Thursday for the Pats and the Chiefs, and I expect Arrowhead will be full up for the Chief’s home opener on Sunday. There is no mystery as to why people aren’t flocking to the 49ers, the Rams, and the Chargers. In San Francisco, in addition to the Kaepernick fiasco you have an owner building a stadium without a thought to the comfort of the fans, and in LA you have two teams which screwed over their old fans and haven’t attracted new ones. Wait until the Raiders start playing to sparse crowds in Oakland and Las Vegas.

Maybe they should take a knee.

Pay me about $200 plus free parking, food and drink for the privilege of my company, and I might consider attending.

I heard Godell likes soccer more than football anyway. Soccer lovers must be overjoyed at the NFL’s self destruction.

>>>I’ve seen football games on big 4k TV’s. I honestly don’t know why anyone would go to a stadium to watch a game now. Seriously.

EXACTLY. I love football...and I really love watching it with my 17-year-old son. But why would I pay all of that money on a CONSISTENT basis to see it (I can understand doing it once for the experience)?

I can sit in my chair...rewind when I want...pause when I want...MUTE when I want...and if I don't like the commentators...I can simulcast on a radio station.

AND...I can drink the beverage of my choice for a LOT cheaper.

Last time I paid to go to a professional sporting event, the price was reasonable and the game was entertaining.

Mark Fidrych was pitching.

“Golly, I wonder what the problem might be ...”......

Pretty simple answers but I’d bet they don’t come up with the correct one once they do their “study” to determine what is wrong. Obviously there are more than one reason people are staying away.

Post 49 addresses it well....

How about a recap of ALL NFL stadiums attendance on a weekly basis. Might be surprising where the fans really are.

Maybe if they burn the flag during the opening ceremony they might get more fans? Isn’t BLM filling the stadiums?

I haven’t watched a single “practice” or season game and have NO INTENTIONS to until the NFL stops those stupid player protests. Being a veteran and patriot who despises those players protesting, they should be extremely appreciative for having the opportunity to play a game and being well paid for such they would NOT enjoy in other countries. IDIOTS!
