When I was in recovery, I was told my son would have died and I might not have made it either, if I hadn’t been in the hospital and had an emergency c-section. I had been in labor for 40 hours and there was absolutely no progress and they were going about to give me pitocin when his heart slowed and came close to stopping. He was trussed in his umbilical cord, 3 times around his neck and 3 times around his body. DO NOT EVER PRETEND THAT C-SECTIONS AREN’T NECESSARY! And trust me, I do not feel less of a mother because he was born through surgery. Period.
That was my story as well, although I’d been on Pitocin for 30 of the 36 hours I was in labor, and my daughter was having heart issues she was so tired of the ineffective later.
I’m sorry you had to go for longer. It was hell, and if they’d forced me to go ‘natural’ — I, and my daughter, would have died.
