That actually looks like it has enough flavor to come out well in the crock pot.

I love the crock pot in theory - but almost everything we’ve made in it has come out tasteless, except pulled pork, and a thing I made from one of those ‘meal kits’ a few months ago - I think it was jambalaya.

I just haven’t learned the trick of good ‘crockpotting’.

“... I haven’t learned the trick of good crock potting”

I just got into it to be honest. I truly think there are better recipes now for it. Plus, I like the idea that I can throw it in after breakfast, do all my afternoon stuff and have dinner ready. I tried some recipes ten years ago and put the crock pot down in the basement. I seem to use it a lot more now. :)

Well, I use it to make bone broth pretty much weekly. First 24 hours, just the chicken carcass and good water and apple cider vinegar (a splash or two to hell the good stuff come out of the chicken bones), and maybe a chicken foot or two from the freezer. Second day, some veggies, for sure leeks, and some herbs. Then cool a bit, dump in the colander over a big bowl, and ladle the cooled broth into red party style plastic cups for freezing and then cut the cups and store the cup shaped broth in bags.

Another recipe that would be foolproof for you with a crockpot would be cheating BBQ ribs. Cover beef ribs (enough to stuff into your pot) with your favorite BBQ sauce. Cook for 4 hours, no more. You don’t want the meat falling off the bone. Then put them on a tray under the broiler for a few minutes, just enough to get a few blackened edges. A bit more sauce, serve, people will think you slaved out at the grill all day.

Our old crock pot was so old I worried about electric fires. I have never been a real crockpotter so I guess I really don’t need one. But they are cool! Torn between a crock pot, feelin’ like a fool, desiring a crock pot is breaking all the rules...........(sung to the tune of “Torn between two lovers”)

I use a crockpot to make my own spaghetti sauce as well as a chili base for long slow cooking.

For example I made sauce for lasagna. Put it into the crock pot just before bedtime for supper the next day. Made the homemade noodles the next morning while the crockpot was smelling nice and spicy.

My husband just left to buy a “Boston butt” that he plans to smoke today to make pulled pork. I don’t know what he plans to serve with it, but it probably depends on what he finds available at the market. He loves the smoker, but he also uses a crock pot for some dishes. It makes good chili.
